If youâve found yourself whisked away to West Texas thanks to a Ransom Canyon binge-watch, you are definitely not alone. The Netflix Western starring Minka Kelly, Josh Duhamel, Jack Schumacher, James Brolin, Marianly Tejada and more took us to the quaint town of Ransom Canyon, where tradition and history reign supreme. The series took us through the intertwined lives of ranchers Staten Kirkland (Duhamel), Davis Collins (Eoin Macken) and Cap Fuller (Brolin), as well as the people who found themselves embedded in the conflict like Quinn OâGrady (Kelly), who owns the local dance hall, Ellie Estevez (Tejada), who works at the hall and looks after Cap, and Yancy Grey (Schumacher), who starts working at the Fuller Ranch.
Considering how the series ended, fans have been anxiously anticipating whether their burning questions will be answered with a second season, and luckily for us, Netflix has just confirmed that the hit show will be returning! Here, everything we know about Ransom Canyon Season 2.
Will there be a âRansom Canyonâ Season 2?
On June 24, Netflix announced that they renewed Ransom Canyon for a second season after the showâs April premiere, but that doesnât mean the showâs creator, April Blair, was sitting around waiting for the call to get the ball rolling. âWeâve already started the writersâ room, even though the show hasnât been picked up to series yet for Season 2,â she told TV Guide back in April before the second season had been confirmed.
With so many questions unanswered, there are several avenues the series could go down. At the end of the debut season, Quinn tells Staten that sheâd been asked to return to New York for a few months, which derails their budding romance that had been brewing for the duration of the show, and as if that wasnât enough to throw Staten off-kilter, the discovery of who was responsible for his sonâs death certainly will.
âWe wanted to find some closure with that,â Blair shared of why it was important to reveal the culprit within the first season. âAnd also, who was behind it and what really happened opens up a whole new series of relationship drama between Lucas and Lauren, as you know. So it gives us a lot of runway in other stories as well.â
What will happen with Lucas, Kit and the Sheriff?
The revelation that Margaret Brigman was the woman responsible for Randallâs death will also have implications in Season 2 for her husband, the local sheriff. âIn a potential Season 2, I think itâs a huge part of whatâs going on. Weâre still just in the room, so I donât have every aspect to tell you,â said Blair. âWesterns are morality tales, and so every aspect of this show, we always try to come from that foundation of love, lands, and legacy, and what that really means. For Sheriff Dan, this is his legacy and his family and the people that he loves. He has this moral choice. Does he do the right thing by his family and the wrong thing by his profession?â
With Kit out of jail, Blair told Entertainment Weekly that he and Lucasâs storyline is one theyâre going to dig into in the future. âThatâs a story and family dynamic that weâre really excited to dive deeper in to. Garret Wareing [Lucas] and Casey Johnson [Kit] are both such strong and compelling actors. Itâs going to be fun to see all the trouble they get into. And there will be trouble, I promise.â
Will there be a time jump in Season 2?
In conversation with TV Guide, Blair revealed that the second season would be set beyond Quinnâs time in New York, at least six months into the future. This would also allow some time for the relationship between Davis and Statenâs father to brew.
âMy favorite feeling is when a show ends, and you donât want it to end, and you just want more,â Blair told Netflixâs Tudum. âIt makes you feel warm and familiar, and you donât want to let go. That is how I hope people feel. Itâs how I feel about the show watching it.â
When will âRansom Canyonâ Season 2 come out?
At this point in time, no premiere date has been announced, but knowing that the showâs second season has already been in the works for months gives us hope that we wonât have to wait too long. With all of this in mind, Blair is thrilled to continue the Texas-set drama. âI couldnât be happier that Netflix is ready to get back in the saddle for Ransom Canyon,â she told Netflixâs Tudum. âOur dreamy little corner of Texas Hill Country is full of stories still untold, and we canât wait to bring them to our incredible fans. Get ready for another ride.â
