On September 22nd 2022, Chicago Med joined its Chicago-based predecessors by embarking on season 8 on NBC. Already proving to be one of the most dramatic and heart-wrenching chapters to date, many fans are concerned as to how Will is going to cope with the numerous changes in his life – especially since his brother, Jesse, seems like he will no longer be around now that Jesse Lee Soffer has left Chicago P.D.

It’s not just Soffer who seems to have made a departure from the show; unfortunately, Guy Lockard, (who plays Dr. Dylan Scott), and Sarah Rafferty, (who played Dr. Pamela Blake), have left too (via Reel Chicago). The shake-ups have proven to be extremely unpopular with those on the One Chicago Reddit threads, who haven’t hidden there disappointment with the creative decisions (as well as a few other choices).

Goodwin Isn’t That Great

Many of the best medical dramas include a character like Sharon Goodwin, who oversees the entire staff and takes control when the doctors are at their wit’s end. For fans of Chicago Fire, they love how compassionate Goodwin is when helping someone and how strong she is when someone comes in and tries to overtake her hospital.

However, Redditor Stock-Slide-5938 doesn’t feel the same, saying, “I really really really wished I liked her, but I just don’t.” Goodwin might not be for everyone, but her staff knows they are well taken care of under her tutelage.

Dr. Manning Is Great

Even though she started as a popular character, Natalie Manning said and did one too many things that went against her character’s personality on Chicago Med to stay in fans’ good graces. But a small group of people enjoyed Natalie’s character, like Redditor ihaveproblems, who said, “I mean she’s done some messed up things, but she’s still my main gal, and hearing that people would rather see her gone upsets me.”

Given that the comment received 91%, it’s quite clear that this was an extremely unpopular opinion. Most fans were happy to see Natalie make her final departure from the show since it meant less trouble for the ED and Will, who Natalie often pulled into her schemes and issues because she knew he would help.

Don’t Complain When It Isn’t Realistic

Even when they are overly dramatic, medical shows have to have realism to them that allows fans to connect to real-life experiences instead of constant levels of drama that become unbelievable. One now-deleted Redditor felt differently, saying, “if you wanted good writing, you shouldn’t watch a medical drama…This isn’t the show to watch if you want top-rated television.”

As many Redditors in the thread pointed out, a lack of drama doesn’t mean the writing is good or bad, but a show with no real-life connections is hard to watch and sympathize with when the characters have personal issues.

Will Halstead Is Overrated

Will Halstead shines a pen light in a patients eyes

The Halstead brothers have kept fans of both Chicago Med and Chicago PD on their toes as both brothers push the limits of what they can do in their respective roles, making them some of the most popular characters on the shows.

However, at least one Redditor, LKC58, isn’t Will’s biggest fan saying, “I can’t stand Natalie or Will. I’m glad she is going to be off the show. Now, if we can get rid of Will….” Given that he is one of the few original doctors left on the show and is involved in a new storyline, Will Halstead isn’t leaving Chicago anytime soon and isn’t likely to change his ways of pushing boundaries.

Dr. Choi Is Arrogant

Dr. Choi has been a constant on Chicago Med since the show’s beginning, with only one hiatus written in as Ethan recovering from an injury. Ethan has been a focal point in many of the best episodes of Chicago Med, making him a well-liked character by many viewers, except Redditor ell_fin, who said, “I can’t stand Choi. He’s an arrogant a**, especially now that he’s chief. I never cared for him, but now I can’t even stand seeing him on screen.”

Choi has taken a back seat as a main character in recent seasons, but from the season eight premiere, it seems he will be back at the forefront of the show. He might seem a little arrogant, but given that the show is extremely popular and is likely to get renewed, this is likely going to be part of his character development.

The Romance Is Between The Chicago Med Characters Is Ridiculous

Like any good medical drama, Chicago Med is riddled with romantic relationships that come and go as often as the patients in the emergency room do and stir up just as much drama. Redditor Eagle2502 is over the love fest, saying, “My wife thinks this is a good part of the show, but I feel that it’s getting ridiculous (we just started S3). These health care professionals could do well keeping their eyes, hands, and lips off of each other while at work, especially when it seems to cause nothing but drama.”

The romance storylines keep fans coming back as it is an integral part of the One Chicago brand and has led to the shows being as successful as they are, with fans tuning in every week to see if their favorite couples can overcome their challenges.

The New Additions To Chicago Med Are Great

Each season of Chicago Med’s best episodes revolves around the core cast that has been on the show since the first few seasons, which has made viewers feel attached to the long-time doctors and nurses and wary of new characters that come into the ED.

However, Redditor ProfessionalStorm694 said, “The new characters are so refreshing I stopped watching in season 5 ’cause I was bored and couldn’t stand the characters and storylines associated with the likes of Dr. Manning, Dr. Halstead, and April.” Even though the new characters add freshness to the show, the main cast will always be well-loved.

April

April’s recent hiatus from the show had come with the disappointment of Chicago Med fans since she is one of the most beloved characters on the show. Her relationships with Ethan and Maggie have been some of the strongest on the show and have kept fans guessing for several seasons.

However, Redditor ell_fin said, “I do not like April. I know Natalie gets plenty of hate, but April has become just as much as a know it all..” Even though she is strong-willed and pushes back on protocol, most fans have come to love April for this. Now that she is back, fans are looking forward to seeing what the writers have in store for them going forward.

Ava Bekker Is Liked By Some Chicago Med Fans

Ava Bekker looks off screen determined

Ava Bekker was brought on as a surgeon who was meant to be a love interest for Connor Rhodes, but turned into a villain once her love for him became an obsession. Fans of the show grew to find her unlikeable because she was combative and was terrible for Dr. Rhodes, who was a fan favorite before leaving the show.

But Redditor Realneverwaits81 said, “Ava Bekker is the absolute best, and the show ruined an amazing character with soo much potential, and nobody can change my mind on that.” Given that it only got a couple of upvotes, it seems that it isn’t as popular of an opinion as they might have believed.

Natalie And Will Are Not A Good Couple

The slow burn and ups and downs of Will and Natalie’s on-off-again relationship was one of the most popular storylines on Chicago Med. While most fans wanted to see the pair together, Redditor RecentSprinkles7632 said, “Natalie and Will are not good together. I liked Will better with Nina.”

Even though the relationship didn’t work out, fans felt like their story ended on a positive note, with the pair being friendly and happy with their new lives. With the comment also receiving a few replies agreeing with them, as well as several upvotes, it seems like it might not be as unpopular as they believe it to be.
