If there’s one medical procedure that the whole world knows, whether they’ve seen it or not, it’s The Good Doctor. Unfortunately, the show’s popularity has nothing to do with the quality of its plot, writing or acting.
In fact, in 2023, social media was blown away in the worst possible way by a particularly emotional scene from the show.
As Dr Shaun Murphy became a certified meme and the public began to talk about everything that was wrong with the show’s portrayal of autism, it was clear that it couldn’t last much longer.
The news that The Good Doctor will be ending after 7 seasons was far from shocking. But the team behind the show are still fighting the backlash, determined to make the final season count for all fans.
One of the things the audience will absolutely appreciate is two more additions to the story.
The Good Doctor Season 7 New Characters
In some cases, fans wouldn’t be so happy to see someone new join the show in its final run, because that’s exactly the time to focus on the main characters and give them more screen time.
In the case of The Good Doctor, however, the show might have felt a little empty without new additions to the cast, giving the two departures from last season.
Make no mistake, neither Kayla Cromer nor Wavyy Jonez are going to replace the joy that Hill Harper and Brandon Larracuente’s Dr Marcus Andrews and Danny Perez brought to the screens. However, their stories will be a nice addition to the season and help fill in the gaps.
Kayla Cromer joins The Good Doctor as Charlie Lukaitis, a long-time fan of Taylor Swift and Dr Shaun Murphy, whose viral video of saving a boy’s life at the start of the series has inspired her to embark on her own medical journey. Seeing them work together, with Shaun taking on a mentoring role himself, would be an interesting dynamic.
Wavyy Jonez’s character, Dominick Hubank, will have a dramatic story of overcoming his own challenges.
Studying to become a GP for his local community, he wasn’t expecting to face an extreme fear of blood, which is far from ideal for any surgeon. Fortunately, Dominick isn’t the type of character to give up easily, so he’ll do his best to fight the hemophobia.
The Good Doctor returns to our screens on Tuesday 20 February, and both new characters are set to make their debut on the same day.
