12 Years Later, Howard’s Love Song to Bernadette Remains TBBT’s Sweetest Moment

The most heartwarming scene of Simon Helberg’s Howard that continues to be cherished by The Big Bang Theory fans.

Portrayed by Simon Helberg, Howard Wolowitz turns over a new leaf in The Big Bang Theory after Bernadette’s introduction in the series. And that’s when some of the character’s best and most heartwarming moments come, including the one that undoubtedly tops them all, from the Season 7 episode, The Romance Resonance.

The episode follows Howard as he plans something special to celebrate the anniversary of their first date. Despite facing some serious issues, he eventually surprised her with a sweet and heartfelt tribute, which became a pivotal moment not only in the couple’s relationship but also for the fans of the sitcom.

TBBT fans still remember Simon Helberg’s most heartwarming Big Bang Theory moment

The Big Bang Theory’s Season 7 episode, The Romance Resonance, could arguably be one of the most chaotic episodes of the series. However, at the center of it all is Howard performing the heartwarming song that he wrote for Bernadette for the anniversary of their first date.

Throughout the episode, Howard (Simon Helberg) is pulling everything together to create a romantic song for his wife. And he wants it to be perfect, without the rap suggested by Raj, and asks the rest of his friends to provide backup instrumentals.

Though things go awry after Bernadette is forced to quarantine due to a mishap with the raccoon virus, Howard still makes it happen. He takes the date to the hospital, singing how much his life has changed since he met Bernadette, with the song, If I Didn’t Have You.

And it is felt by fans as equally as Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) in that moment, leaving them teary-eyed, in a moment of compassion that he has for his wife. Given how truly heartwarming the moment is, it’s not surprising that fans continue to hold it in high esteem.

“Every single time I hear this song, I bawl my eyes out,” one fan said on Reddit, noting that it was possibly one of the most romantic things any character has ever done on the show. And the tension between the show’s central couple, Penny and Leonard, might just prove it right.

Our thoughts on why Howard has the best redemption arc in The Big Bang Theory

Though Howard was initially a creepy guy in the series, it would be fair to argue that he experiences the most significant and heartwarming growth in the entire cast, which obviously is triggered by Bernadette’s entry into his life.

Following his relationship with Bernadette, he not only drops the creepy personality but also learns to appreciate his new relationship and be genuine in everything he does. And one of the most significant things, which also becomes the hook in his song for Bernadette, is that he finally moves out of his mother’s place.

And though he is still the same nerd who enjoys his geeky stuff, Howard has transformed, all of which he attributes to Bernadette. And his growth becomes clearer as the show progresses.

He understands his wife, knows her best and worst qualities, respects her personal time, and does great things for her, whether it’s dedicating a song to her, or the thought behind the star necklace, it all counts to make him the best husband in TBBT.

Another pivotal stage for him is fatherhood. He obviously gets freaked out with Bernadette on learning that they are expecting and tries his best to understand the responsibilities that come with it.

He even tries being a stay-at-home father, so that his wife could continue her career and doesn’t have to leave it all to take care of their child. And though the settlement doesn’t last very long, it was still great to see him try.

And his progress becomes even more evident if you look at all the characters altogether, whose growth is more intellectual or circumstantial. However, for Howard, his growth is deeply personal.
