La Garrigue – a restaurant once on Gordon Ramsay’s list of favorites – has declared bankruptcy.

GONE BUST

Popular Scots restaurant on Gordon Ramsay’s list of top food spots goes into liquidation after 25 years

A BELOVED restaurant once praised by Gordon Ramsay has gone out of business after 25 years.

La Garrigue, a French bistro in Edinburgh, closed its doors at the end of 2025.

The Jeffrey Street business first opened in 2001 by chef Jean Michel Gauffre and rocketed to become a huge success.

It even received high praise from celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay who named it as one of his “best restaurants.”

But La Garrigue was plagued by “difficult trading conditions” towards the end of their time on the capital’s food scene.

The company filed a petition at Edinburgh Sheriff Court to wind up their operations and have entered liquidation.

James Stephen and Simon Girling, of BDO, have been appointed as liquidators for the restaurant

A spokesperson for BDO told The Herald: “James Stephen and Simon Girling of BDO LLP were appointed joint liquidators of the company.

“The business had ceased to trade prior to the liquidators’ appointment due to prolonged difficult trading conditions.

“The liquidators are continuing to work on realising the company’s assets in line with their statutory duties.”

It comes amid a difficult time for Scotland‘s hospitality scene.

Hardworking businesses have been hammered by rising supply and energy costs right after closing down during the pandemic.

Rising wages and National Insurance hikes have also increased the pressures on business owners.

At the same time punters have been hit by the cost of living crisis and have been going out less to save cash.

We previously told how a beloved coastal restaurant closed down after 16 years of serving hungry customers.

The pub and bar trade isn’t immune to the challenges, with a popular cocktail bar announcing a shock closure after less than two years in business.
