6 Reasons We’re Excited for ‘Blue Bloods’ Newest Reagan in Season 11

Blue Bloods revealed a previously unknown piece of Reagan family history—deceased son Joe had a child!—and a seat had been added to the dinner table by the end of the 10th season finale.

As Frank (Tom Selleck) learned, after grandson Sean (Andrew Terraciano) got the ball rolling with an assignment about his family ancestry, Joe has a son, named Joe Hill (Will Hochman), who’s now doing quite well for himself in the NYPD. (He’s in the fire arms unit, though his mother, Paula, would rather he have a safer position.) He joined the family for Sunday dinner in the final scene of “Family Secrets.”

“For Joe Hill, is it best for him to have a great-grandfather and a grandfather who are police commissioners, one uncle who’s a very famous NYPD detective, another who’s an NYPD sergeant, and an aunt who is high up in the District Attorney’s office?” executive producer Kevin Wade teased. “It would completely change how everybody he worked with looked at him and related to him.”

Because Season 10 ended three episodes early, “we have a number of things involving this Joe Hill thing that we already had in motion that we will revisit in Season 11,” he added.

Scroll down to see our hopes for Joe Hill next year.

Family dinners

We saw Joe arrive at the house, meet everyone, and sit down for dinner, but we have yet to see how he’ll handle the family discussions (and debates). And will things change once grandkids Nicky (Sami Gayle) and Jack (Tony Terraciano) are there?

Family relationships

Though Joe has now met nearly everyone in the family, the only person he’s had one-on-one time with is his grandfather, under the guise of a work meeting. While he knows who the Reagans are, simply because of their last name, it’s different getting to know them as relatives. How will that go — and who will he clash with? (Because he has Reagan blood, you know that’s a given.) And what will happen the first time he crosses paths with a family member on the job?

The impact of being a Reagan on the job for Joe

As exec producer Wade pointed out, once Joe’s coworkers find out who his family is, things will change for him. How will Joe deal with that?

Learning more about the late Joe Reagan

Chances are that at some point, Joe Hill is going to want to hear about his father from those who knew him best—and that’s going to have to play out on-screen.

More conflict between Frank and Paula

With Bonnie Somerville playing Joe’s mom, it’s probably a safe bet that we’ll see her again. She wasn’t pleased when Frank refused to transfer her son to a different department and it’s likely not something she’s going to let go.

The family’s reactions after the shock

No one had much time to deal with the news of finding out about the kid Joe never knew he had, but they’ll have had some time to sit with it by the Season 11 premiere. (It’s unknown when exactly the story will pick up; might there be a time jump after an episode or two, given that Season 10 ended early?)
