Fans of Blue Bloods were left heartbroken when CBS announced that Season 14 would be the show’s last. The saga of the beloved Reagan family will conclude with a two-part season, with the first part airing now and additional episodes set for next fall.
Showrunner Kevin Wade assures viewers that the final season will deliver the character-driven storytelling that has defined the series. “The stakes have never been about the kidnapper getting caught before the victims are harmed, but about whether two or more Reagans can resolve their conflicts,” he explains.
The season opens with Sgt. Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) going undercover in a human trafficking ring, a mission that’s sure to put him in jeopardy. Estes humorously notes the drastic look change required for the role, joking that he showed up with “some hair on my face” after being told by Wade to forgo his usual grooming.
Police commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) is understandably concerned about Jamie’s risky assignment. “He realizes he’s stepping into territory he shouldn’t,” Selleck says, reflecting Frank’s struggle between his duties as a commissioner and as a father.
In the two-parter set to air on February 23, Jamie encounters his nephew, detective Joe Hill (Will Hochman), who is also on a secret mission. Their differing approaches lead to tension, highlighting the complexity of their relationship.
Meanwhile, Frank has a revealing conversation with Mayor Peter Chase (Dylan Walsh). Despite their ongoing political differences, they bond over the loneliness that comes with their positions. This exchange prompts Frank to reflect on his own identity beyond his job.
Detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) faces a moral quandary involving his ex-partner Darryl Reid (Malik Yoba), who confesses to a murder that Danny questions. This storyline challenges Danny’s confidence and forces him to confront difficult truths.
The final season will also feature familiar faces, including Nicky (Sami Gayle) returning from San Francisco and Jackie Curatola (Jennifer Esposito), now a police chief, assisting Danny with a case. A poignant moment comes when Frank mourns his long-time friend Lenny Ross (Treat Williams), whose recent passing adds an emotional layer to the series.
As the season progresses, fans are speculating about various character arcs: Will Erin (Bridget Moynahan) run for DA? Will Danny find new love? And what about Jamie and Eddie (Vanessa Ray) potentially starting a family? Wade hints at leaving possibilities open for surprising developments, drawing inspiration from classic series finales.
