Netflix Announces Virgin River Season 6 Release Date and It’s My Christmas Plans Sorted

Christmas has come early for Virgin River fans! Netflix has revealed that the highly anticipated season 6 of the hit romantic drama will drop on December 19.

This announcement follows confirmation from Virgin River star Alexandra Breckenridge, who had previously hinted that the new season would arrive on the streaming platform in late 2024. Earlier, Deadline had reported that filming delays due to weather conditions pushed the release to 2025, but fans can now officially mark their calendars for a December 19 return.

Alongside the release date, the official Virgin River Instagram account teased the upcoming season with first-look photos, giving us a glimpse of what’s in store for the beloved residents of Virgin River.

What to Expect in Virgin River Season 6

Fans can rest easy knowing that all their favorite characters will be back for season 6. Additionally, Netflix has announced two new cast members: Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) and Callum Kerr (One Piece) will join the series as a young version of Mel Monroe’s (Breckenridge) parents, Sarah and Everett Reid. The two will appear in flashbacks, depicting their love story in the 1970s.

The end of Virgin River season 5 part 2 saw Mel reconnecting with her biological father, Everett (played by John Allen Nelson), who revealed that he had “something important” to share. Fans will finally get answers to this mystery and more, as season 6 promises even more twists and drama.

According to the official Netflix synopsis, “Set against the backdrop of Mel and Jack’s (Martin Henderson) spring wedding season, season 6 promises fresh twists, escalating love triangles, wedding drama, and uncovered secrets from Mel’s father’s past. This will transport viewers to the magic and mystique of Virgin River in the 1970s.”
