Upcoming ‘Yellowstone’ Spin-Off to Focus on Beth and Rip’s Story

Yellowstone is back! Paramount Network’s neo-Western has returned from its incredibly long “midseason break” — which lasted almost two whole years — with the final run of Season 5 episodes. This second half, dubbed Season 5 Part 2, consists of just six episodes, but we’re expecting them to be packed with action as the Duttons go to war with each other and everyone else who gets in their way. These final episodes were expected to be the hit show’s last, but the network has quietly switched to calling the upcoming finale a “season” finale — and a spin-off starring Yellowstone regulars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser is reportedly in the works. One thing is for sure: This franchise isn’t quite ready to hang up its cowboy hat.

Star Kevin Costner will not appear in the second half of Season 5 as the actor moves on to a new passion project of his own, a series of Western films. But there’s still a lot of unfinished business to take care of on the flagship series. As the season began, civil war had broken out among the Duttons, with Jamie (Wes Bentley) and Beth (Reilly) at each other’s throats, and a devastating illness spreading through Montana wildlife and endangering the Duttons’ cattle.
