The streets of Boston will soon run blue with the blood of Donnie Wahlberg in the upcoming Blue Bloods spin-off, Boston Blue. Per The Hollywood Reporter, CBS gave a straight-to-series order to other series, with Wahlberg reprising the role of Danny Reagan. He is the only returning cast member announced thus far. Far be it from us to wonder what the color blue might be doing to Boston, a city closely associated with the color green. However, one cannot simply give all the police officer characters green uniforms, even though that would look really cool and badass and make CBS a lot of money. Nevertheless, this series sees Reagan leave the mean streets of New York City for Beantown’s cadre of no-goodniks, Dunkies obsessives, and Massholes who park their car in Harvard Yard. It sounds like a wicked pisser.
Wahlberg may be returning, as are executive producers Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed, but the creative team is getting a transfusion. Replacing the original series’ creative team are Blacklist and S.W.A.T writers Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, who will serve as showrunners.
Boston Blue is expected to bleed all over the CBS audience later this year.
