Tracker Season 2 Just Lost 2 Cast Members (Including A Fan-Favorite)

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Tracker season 2, episode 9, “The Disciple.”After its return from its lengthy winter break, Tracker season 2 just said goodbye to 2 cast members, including one that has become a fan-favorite in such a short time. Justin Hartley’s TV comeback after starring in This Is Us has been no short of a success, and its sophomore year, Tracker has maintained its place as broadcast’s most-watched series. Naturally, there was anticipation for its return from its mandatory winter break, especially with the way the midseason finale left things for the self-confessed “rewardist,” Colter Shaw, and his continued search for Gina Picket.

Instead of further stretching out the arch, which has been going on for most of Tracker season 2, part 1, “The Disciple” has officially solved Gina’s case. The mystery goes back to Frank Whales, whose involvement in the disappearance of the teen years ago provides the lead that Colter needs to figure out what happened to Gina finally. As it turns out, he’s a patsy for the real culprit. While the response to the arc’s resolution is divisive, what’s overlooked is that the show ends up losing two more characters on the heels of Robin Weigert’s Tracker season 2 exit.

Tracker Season 2, Episode 9 Effectively Writes Out Camille & Keaton

Gina Picket’s Case Getting Resolved Wraps Up Their Roles

Tracker season 2’s cast got some additional new faces with the introduction of Floriana Lima’s Camille Picket and Brent Sexton’s Keaton. CBS’ procedural established Camille’s importance early on in the year, as she and Colter reconnected during the anniversary of Gina’s disappearance. Aside from their connection through her sister, the pair has also maintained an on-and-off fling for years. Meanwhile, Sexton’s retired cop debuted in Tracker season 2, episode 6, with Keaton quickly becoming a fan-favorite. Since both of their roles in the show are tied to the Picket case, solving it leaves them no clear role moving forward.

Hartley’s character bids both farewell, albeit separately, in “The Disciple,” as he goes back to his weekly job bookings.

With that, Tracker season 2, episode 9 ends with Colter (and the viewers) saying goodbye to both Camille and Keaton. The rewardist has kept his ties with Gina’s sister all this time, primarily because he has been haunted by not being able to solve her case. With that done, there’s really no established need for them to reconnect. Meanwhile, Keaton’s partnership with Colter has only lasted this long because they have been working on Gina’s disappearance. Hartley’s character bids both farewell, albeit separately, in “The Disciple,” as he goes back to his weekly job bookings.

Can Both Keaton & Camille Still Return In Tracker?

Keaton’s Chances Of Returning Are Higher

Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw in Tracker

The good news is that both Keaton and Camille can still reappear in Tracker. Seeing them again in season 2 may be a little trickier, considering that the rewardist will be back on the road for his cases, while also making some pitstops to reconnect with his siblings for their father’s mystery case. That being said, given Tracker‘s popularity, it’s safe to say that a season 3 renewal from CBS is imminent. Since Keaton and Camille are alive, they can always be brought back. Between the pair, however, Sexton’s retired cop has a higher chance of making an appearance again.

Despite Colter’s generous offer, Camille says that she’s thinking more of an international trip — a polite way of turning him down.

As established in the Tracker season 2 midseason finale, Camille is looking at traveling. Colter offers his RV for the trip. It’s difficult to decipher whether he is only joking, primarily because there seems to be genuine fondness between her and Gina’s sister. As revealed in the same episode, they were already dating when the younger Picket disappeared. Perhaps they might have even stayed together in a proper relationship had it not been for the tragedy. Despite Colter’s generous offer, Camille says that she’s thinking more of an international trip — a polite way of turning him down.

Meanwhile, Keaton’s farewell is more straightforward. The Gina Picket case is done, and so is his partnership with Colter. The pair’s team-up isn’t anything official, unlike the working relationship he has with the rest of his team like Reenie, Bobby, and Velma. Instead, it stemmed from an instant camaraderie from the moment they met. Before separating, however, Keaton and Colter keep the door open to collaborate again in the future.

How Keaton & Camille Can Return In Tracker

Tracker Can Easily Bring Back Either Character

Justin Hartley in Tracker

The first half of Tracker season 2 was dominated by Gina’s case, as it progressed alongside Colter’s weekly jobs. Since both Keaton and Camille are not dead, they can return anytime the story needs them. It might take a while before that happens, considering that they just went their separate ways, but they are additional characters that Tracker can pull out for familiarity. Camille’s return can resurface as part of the show tacking Colter’s increasingly complicated romances in the series. Gina’s case may be done, but the on-and-off again couple has proven that there’s a lingering attraction between them.

From a storytelling perspective, bringing back Sexton is also beneficial to Tracker because of his chemistry with Hartley.

Keaton’s possible return to Tracker is much more straightforward. Given how useful he is to Colter in solving Gina’s mysterious disappearance, it isn’t difficult to imagine the “rewardist” calling him up for new jobs moving forward. Perhaps, he can be an honorary member of Colter’s operations. From a storytelling perspective, bringing back Sexton is also beneficial to Tracker because of his chemistry with Hartley. It was fun watching Keaton and Colter’s opposite approaches to solving cases.

What Keaton & Camille’s Exit Means For The Rest Of Tracker Season 2

Tracker Season 2’s Story Can Move Forward

Saying goodbye to Keaton and Camille may be hard, but it opens up new storytelling opportunities for Tracker season 2. Since Colter is no longer on the lookout for any new development in Gina’s case, he can focus on his actual work, which can once again take him to farther parts of the country. He has mostly stayed in the area to work on his white whale case, but now that it’s over, he’s free to roam around.

Beyond that, Tracker season 2 can also finally answer other lingering questions in the show. The mystery about the death of the Shaw family patriarch is a mystery that has been haunting the series throughout its run. There was barely any movement on that front because Colter was focused on the Picket matter. That said, with confirmed appearances from Dory and Russell, the siblings can make significant progress in learning what really happened to their dad. This time, Tracker season 2 may also have the space to finally give Teddi a definitive send-off after keeping her and Velma’s relationship in limbo.
