Blue Bloods gets reboot after being axed including star – but fans spot huge issue

Fans of Blue Bloods are in for a surprise as the beloved story is set to be revived in a new city.

The CBS drama concluded its final season last year after an impressive 14-season run and 288 episodes.

While it remains uncertain whether Tom Selleck, who portrayed Frank Reagan, will return, the new series will spotlight Danny Reagan, Frank’s son played by Donnie Wahlberg.

This development follows Blue Bloods showrunner Kevin Wade’s initial dismissal of a reboot idea.

However, he seems to have been mistaken as CBS has announced the new series, titled Boston Blue.

Unlike the original series set in New York City, Donnie will reprise his role in the Boston Police Department, partnering with Detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter from a distinguished law enforcement family.

According to Deadline, several spinoff ideas were proposed, including one where Danny Reagan relocates to Texas.

Boston Blue was initially envisioned as a standalone show about a Boston police family, prompting CBS to order a script.

After receiving positive feedback from the network, they decided to incorporate it into the Blue Bloods universe.

The show has been commissioned for the 2025-2026 broadcast season, reports Deadline.

When the original show was canceled in 2024, stars Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg openly expressed their disappointment and desire for the show to continue.

Fans of the series are clearly thrilled by its revival. A delighted fan exclaimed on X (formerly Twitter): “Yay!!!!! I’m so happy to see Donnie is back in a TV series. Yippee!!”

Another curious viewer posed the question: “I am thrilled to have our Danny back, will the Regan family visit Boston?”

Meanwhile, an enthusiast for action shared: “I love adventure and action series and movies and #BloodBlues brought that for me again! So if there’s a spin off with @DonnieWahlberg character I’m for it!”
