BLUE BLOODS actor Steve Schirripa will star in an upcoming Hallmark movie, something very different than his usual roles.
“I never did a Hallmark movie,” Schirripa told Us Weekly. “It was, believe it or not, a bucket list thing. How many guys could go from THE SOPRANOS to Hallmark? But I made the jump, and I was very happy, and I had a wonderful time.”
Although Schirripa who played Anthony Abetemarco in BLUE BLOODS, enjoyed his past roles, they were part of heavy storylines. He believes that his new role in Hallmark’s SISTERHOOD INC. is a positive change.
The movie sees “Corporate exec Megan start…a board of directors to improve her younger sister’s chaotic life and finds romance with a psych professor who uncovers her tough demeanor.”
“I really had a good time, I hope to do more,” Schirripa said of the part. “It was very nice, no arguing, no killing, no nothing. Even on BLUE BLOODS, which I loved, I must have killed four or five people. I killed more people as a cop than I did as a mobster.”
The actor appreciates the “vibe” of Hallmark movies: “It’s just a nice vibe. Sometimes you’re not in a great mood, you don’t want to watch anything heavy. If I want to watch bad stuff, I put the news on. Sometimes you just want to watch something nice.”
The actor also brought his dachshund dog Willie on the interview. “We make people happy, and that’s what I like,” he said. “He makes me happy. He’s like our son. We have two grown daughters that are out of the house. Our kids think we’re nuts. I say, ‘Willie’s your brother. Be nice.’”
Schirripa is still getting used to BLUE BLOODS being over.
“It was a very close-knit group, really, a nice group of people,” he said of his co-stars. “I didn’t know anyone. So it’s strange when you’re stepping in and everyone knows each other, and you’re like the new guy. But they treated me like one of them from day one.”
