Young Sheldon’s Iain Armitage and Jim Parsons Unite in New BTS Video

A fun video shared from the set of Young Sheldon reveals a sneak peek at Jim Parsons’ return as Sheldon Cooper.
Both actors who’ve played Sheldon Cooper have united in a new video shared from the set of Young Sheldon. It provides a sneak peek at the big return of Jim Parsons as the older Sheldon Cooper years after last playing the role for The Big Bang Theory.

After Young Sheldonrecently wrapped filming, a video was shared to the official TikTok account for the hit series. Iain Armitage, who played the younger Sheldon in the prequel series, joked about how there’s a “new filter” that he wants to try out on his phone that will estimate what he looks like when he grows up. After applying the “filter,” Armitage transforms into Parsons, a joke about how the two actors have played the same character at different ages.

“So, apparently there’s a new filter that shows you what it looks like when you grow up,” Armitage says in the video. “I don’t know how accurate it is going to be, but let me try it out.”

After tapping the screen, Armitage turns into Parsons, who then says, “Hmm, I’m not sure about this. Oh! It changes your voice, too. Ha! I don’t like it.”
Parsons has served as narrator for Young Sheldon, and the actor is also an executive producer for the series. However, he has not been physically featured in the role of Sheldon at any point in the show. That will change with the series finale, as it’s been revealed that Parsons will return as Sheldon Cooper alongside Mayim Bialik as his wife, Amy. It’s the first time since Parsons has physically portrayed Sheldon since The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019.
It Was Incredible for Iain Armitage to See Jim Parsons Return
“It was incredible,” Armitage recently said of seeing Parsons reprising his role as Sheldon on the set, per Variety. “It felt like a reunion, getting to see them back together. They know each other so well and act so well together. They knew each other’s cues, which was wonderful to see. I think Mister Jim and Miss Mayim both quite enjoyed it, so that’s nice.”

He added, “It was definitely surreal. I think it was weird and cool and interesting. He said that in a good way, he felt like a guest on our set. I was happy that it didn’t feel too weird or out of the ordinary for him. That’s all I can ask for.”

The series finale of Young Sheldon will premiere on Thursday, May 16 on CBS at 8/7c.
