FBI’s fourth spinoff may be the perfect solution to a significant obstacle standing in the way of Maggie (Missy Peregrym) and OA’s (Zeeko Zaki) potential romance. The new spinoff, titled FBI: CIA will get a backdoor pilot in FBI during the spring of 2025. Not much is known about it yet other than that it will involve a special task force in New York City. However, it’s possible that one or more members of the FBI season 7 cast will transfer to the new unit instead of staying with the New York Field Office.
In the meantime, it’s unclear whether OA and Maggie will begin a romance in FBI season 7. Although they are a popular pairing, the two haven’t taken many steps toward becoming more than work partners. Additionally, OA already has a girlfriend, but he seems to be closer with Maggie than with his partner. Maggie has also recently met someone new. Thus, there are several obstacles to overcome before FBI’s OA and Maggie can be together romantically.
Maggie & OA Working Under The Same Unit Makes Dating Tricky
Their Supervisors Might Have Concerns About Their Ability To Work Together
Maggie and OA have been working partners since FBI’s first episode. Thus, dating would be extremely difficult for them, career-wise. As partners on high-profile cases that often involve confrontations with violent suspicions, OA and Maggie need to stay focused on the task at hand and remain calm under pressure. This is never easy, but it would be especially challenging for them to watch each relationship other’s backs if their becomes emotionally and physically closer. Mistakes in high-pressure situations could cost lives, so it could be dangerous for the pair to keep working together.
Jubal (Jeremy Sisto) or Isobel (Alana de la Garza) might enforce a rule against people in the same unit dating, and with good reason. It would be far more difficult to respond objectively to situations where the person you love and want to spend the rest of your life with might be in danger. The New York Field Office cannot risk the lives of agents and civilians by allowing romantic partners to work together and thus may forbid Maggie and OA dating.
How FBI: CIA Can Help Make Maggie & OA’s Romance Happen
If One Character Transfers To A New Department, The Partnership Problem Is Solved
A relationship between Maggie and OA would become a non-issue if they were no longer working together. In many police procedures, supervisors force this issue by requiring one member of a new couple to transfer to a different unit. Even if Jubal or Isobel don’t demand this, however, it is a good idea. It lowers the risk that one partner will cause unnecessary deaths because of their fear for the other’s safety. The downside, of course, is that the partners may rarely have time to spend together because of scheduling issues.
While Maggie and OA don’t have any children to consider right now, a similar lateral move by one of them would remove work-related obstacles to getting together.
The FBI has already done this with Nina (Shantel VanSanten) and Scola (John Boyd). The two both originally worked for the New York Field Office, but Nina transferred to the Fugitive Task Force after she and Scola got together. This practice has allowed them to live together and co-parent their son without pushback from the FBI. While Maggie and OA don’t have any children to consider right now, a similar lateral move by one of them would remove work-related obstacles to getting together and make it more likely that it will happen at all.
Why Moving Either Maggie Or OA To FBI: CIA Makes Sense
It Would Help The New Series Become Successful
Moving Maggie or OA to the new unit not only makes it easier for them to pursue romance with each other but would also be helpful in ensuring the new spinoff is a success. Although so far, the FBI franchise is popular, offering a fourth entry is risky. Audiences may be burnt out on FBI shows and less willing to turn on the TV for the newest entry, especially if it airs on a different night than the other FBI shows.
Moving either Maggie or OA to another unit would offer an emotional exit story from the original FBI.
If a beloved character from FBI joins FBI: CIA, that could help attract the viewership needed to keep the new show on the air. Moving either Maggie or OA to another unit would offer an emotional exit story from the original FBI. The two have been partners for almost eight years, and it will be a jarring change for them and the unit. However, this may be a necessary step to facilitate their romance. Additionally, the character who moves won’t disappear from the franchise if they join the team featured on the newest spinoff.
