Tracker season 2 continues to miss Bobby, understandably raises questions about Eric Graise’s future in CBS’ hit procedural. Justin Hartley’s This Is Us follow-up series remains strong in ratings as it transitions to its sophomore year. Much has happened in Tracker season 2, including the introduction and eventual resolution of Colter Shaw’s white whale case — the disappearance of Gina Picket. His operation largely remains the same, with Hartley’s hero mostly on his own on the ground as he tracks down missing people for a reward. That said, he still relies on the help of his remote team.
Colter maintains a small group of allies, with each member serving an important purpose. After Tracker lost Robin Weigert’s Robin, the rewardist tapped the help of new friends he has met along the way, most notable Brent Sexton’s Keaton, who was integral in solving Picket’s case. As the procedural settles back into its weekly cases, however, Colter goes back to basics. Velma connects him with the case, while Reenie takes care of the legal side of things. Bobby specializes in research and fact-finding online, but he has been missing in action for a couple of episodes now.
Bobby Continues To Be Absent In Tracker Season 2
Colter’s Resident Tech/Research Support Has Been Missing For 2 Consecutive Episodes
In Tracker season 2, episode 10, “Nightingale,” Colter found himself tackling an unusual missing person’s case that had him tied up with a local biker gang. Ultimately, the matter was resolved, but instead of relying on Bobby for help with additional information, Hartley’s character coordinated with Chris Lee’s Randy. As Colter moves on from that small-town case, he tracks down a missing son, whose mom is connected to the criminal underworld in Tracker season 3, episode 11, “Shades of Gray.” Unsurprisingly, he reaches out to his remote team for assistance, but instead of Bobby, Randy remains as his tech support.
Admittedly, Randy is also a fun addition to Tracker. While he is as competent as his laid-back cousin, his brief conversations with Colter are full of personality, and that’s a testament to Lee’s presence. It’s curious what will happen to the character once Graise returns as Bobby.
Tracker Season 2, Episode 10 Explains Where Bobby Is
Bobby Is Currently Away
As Bobby’s cousin, Randy is equally capable in helping dig out information that could help Colter in his cases. In both episodes, he has provided pivotal details that have led the rewardist in the right direction. Granted that Randy doesn’t seem to approve his cousin’s set-up, Colter’s operations remain unaffected by the absence. “Shades of Gray” doesn’t really dwell on the matter, but “Nightingale” already revealed a brief but believable explanation for Bobby’s absence. As it turns out, he is currently away dealing with some family matters, and it’s safe to say that it continues to be the case.
For what it’s worth, it seems like neither Colter nor Randy are worried that something bad may have happened with Bobby. CBS has not offered any official information about Graise’s absence in Tracker season 2 thus far, although it’s worth noting that cast rotation is a popular cost-cutting method that several network shows are currently executing. Still, considering how the show remains mum about Teddi’s definitive fate, concerns about Bobby leaving Tracker are justified. Hopefully, the show already offers a clear reason for his absence if he will continue to be away.
Why It’s So Odd For Bobby Not To Be Around In Tracker
Colter Heavily Relies On Bobby’s Information
As previously mentioned, missing characters in the middle of a season isn’t exactly a new thing for network broadcast. Occasionally, some spirits will not be part of Jay and Sam’s shenanigans for the week in Ghosts, while an agent could be absent during FBI — both are CBS shows. The issue, however, with Tracker is that it isn’t technically an ensemble show. It lives and dies with Hartley’s Colter, so as long as he’s in the middle of its narrative, the procedural can go on. That can pose problems with sustainability, but for now, it seems like things are going well.
That said, it must also be noted that throughout its run thus far, it has become clear that it would be nearly impossible for him to have such a high success rate without help. If anything Colter is only the muscle of the operation. Reenie, Velma, and Bobby all contribute to it, but among them, it’s the tech genius who should be around for every single case. Velma can easily outsource booking Colter’s gig to someone else, or he might even be able to find his next mission on his own. Sure it isn’t as seamless, but it’s entirely possible.
It’s a relief that Randy is around, and is doing a great job taking over his cousin’s gig, but questions about Graise’s character’s future in the show are justified, especially with how Tracker contnues to dance around Teddi’s departure.
Meanwhile, Reenie only comes in for legal matters. If there’s nothing tied to any kind of law-related issue, Hartley’s hero can manage on his own. As a master hacker and research pro, however, Colter heavily relies on Bobby’s work to point him towards the right direction. It’s a relief that Randy is around, and is doing a great job taking over his cousin’s gig, but questions about Graise’s character’s future in the show are justified, especially with how Tracker contnues to dance around Teddi’s departure. It isn’t the realm of possibility that the same is happening with Bobby.
How Long Will Bobby Be Away In Tracker Season 2
CBS Has Remained Mum About The Matter
Because CBS is mum about the matter, and Tracker season 2 only gave a general explanation of why Bobby is not around, it’s difficult to predict when he will be back in the show. It doesn’t seem like Graise is working on a different project right now, effectively making this situation trickier to read. Unfortunately, the official synopsis for Tracker season 2, episode 12, “Monster,” (via Paramount) doesn’t reveal anything about the predicament either, as it focuses on Colter’s next case, which is tracking down a missing mother after she put her kid down for the night.
The best-case scenario for this, however, is that whatever is happening with Bobby right now will manifest into a future episode for Colter in Tracker season 2. Back in season 1, the rewardist met up with his tech genius friend to help him with a personal case. The procedure could be set up something similar, only this time, it involves the Exley family. This would also explain why Randy has taken over the job, as he hould also be connected to the matter.
