The tragedy was already teased via the official teaser for ‘Too Close.” While previews tends to hype up all kinds of episodes, this one promised that someone would not make it. Considering the kinds of deaths that the franchise has seen before, theories about who would die in Chicago Fire season 13, episode 15 quickly swirled around. As the episode started, there was some sense of dread knowing what was coming. While the rest of Firehouse 51 and even Jack Damon, Benny Severide’s secret son, ended up being safe, Chief Dom Pascal was faced with a major tragedy.
Monica, Chief Pascal’s Wife Died In Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 15
Firehouse 51 Suffered A Terrible Death
Ultimately, it was Chief Pascal’s wife, Monica, who died in Chicago Fire season 13, episode 15. Her introduction came earlier in the year, after Dermot Mulroney’s character stepped in as Firehouse 51’s Chief Wallace Boden replacement. Monica was, at best, a recurring character in the series, with most of her scenes opposite her on-screen husband. She did visit Firehouse 51 once, however. Despite that, “Too Close” did a good job setting up her unexpected death in a way that it was still very emotional, not just for Chief Pascal but for the rest of Firehouse 51.
In Chicago Fire season 13, episode 15, Monica died of injuries that she suffered from a car accident while on her way to her and Chief Pascal’s anniversary celebration. Mouch call his superior and asked him to rush to Gaffney Medical, but by the time he got there, he was greeted with an emotional Violet, until Archer confirmed that his wife had died. Chief Pascal’s emotional breakdown in the emergency room was heartwrenching, and it’s expected that this will kick off a personal story for him moving forward.
Why Chicago Fire Season 13 Wrote Out Monica So Quickly
Monica’s Role Was Always Tied To Her Husband’s Story
Admittedly, Chicago Fire season 13 didn’t do a good enough job of establishing Monica. As previously mentioned, her appearances were mostly with Chief Pascal, as they also dealt with their own maritial issues — something that we still haven’t learned the specifics of. Despite that, it’s clear, however, that the couple was very much in love. Chief Pascal adored his wife so immensely, that he followed her from Miami to Chicago. It would have been so much more powerful if the series had spent time developing her relationship with the rest of Firehouse 51.
How Monica’s Death Changes The Future Of Chicago Fire
Chief Pascal Will Be Under The Spotlight
Until now, Chicago Fire has barely put Chief Pascal at the center of its narrative. The majority of his storylines has been focused on his work with Firehouse 51, with snippets of his personal arc. Granted that his life outside of the firehouse has been mainly involved Monica, her death is expected to pave the way for a shift in focus for the show. As Chief Pascal grieves, Firehouse 51 and the viewers will likely learn more about the man, which is integral, if there’s any long-term future for him in the project.
While they have gotten used to Chief Boden’s absence, Chicago Fire still hasn’t fully settled Chief Pascal as his replacement yet.
