CBS Announces Another Beloved Show Is Ending After ‘Blue Bloods’ Cancellation: ‘Farewell’

Another beloved CBS show has gotten the ax, just months after Blue Bloods ended after 14 seasons. The network announced that The Neighborhood will be ending after its upcoming season 8.

“The brilliant cast and creative team at The Neighborhood led by the incomparable Cedric the Entertainer have brought levity, laughter, and poignant storylines to Monday nights for seven incredible seasons,” Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement, per Deadline. “The Neighborhood is a strong ratings performer for CBS and one of the top comedies on TV. We believe the show’s loyal fans deserve a proper farewell season full of the trademark humor and heartfelt moments that are synonymous with the series.”

In addition to Cedric the Entertainer, The Neighborhood stars Tichina ArnoldSheaun McKinneyMarcel SpearsHank Greenspan and Skye Townsend.

The final season of the show will air during the 2025-2026 broadcast season. Currently, season 7 is airing episodes on CBS. The Neighborhood was noticeably left off the list of CBS’ show renewals last month, leading to questions about the show’s fate.

The good news is, the season 7 finale will serve as a “backdoor pilot” for a potential spinoff of the show before Marty and Malcolm move to Venice, Deadline reported. Additionally, a spinoff called Crutch starring Tracy Morgan is in the works at Paramount+. The series was announced in a May 2024 press release.

“The series centers on its titular character, Francois ‘Frank’ Crutchfield (Morgan) – or ‘Crutch’ to those that know him well – a Harlem widower whose empty nest plans are put on hold after his millennial son and free-spirited daughter move back home,” the synopsis says. “The series is produced by CBS Studios and is slated to begin production later this year.”

“I’m excited to be expanding our The Neighborhood universe, by producing a show with the legendary comedian Tracy Morgan,” Cedric said. “This new character is the close cousin to my character Calvin Butler and you will enjoy some of their many similarities. Morgan plays Crutch a ‘say-it-like-it-is’ widowed father who is challenged when his two adult children and a couple of grandchildren need to move back home, and let’s say there will be several comedic complications.”

Tracy also spoke out after the news of the spinoff was confirmed by the network.

“Crutch will be navigating the ups and downs of having his kids and grandkids back under one roof, and you know if I am doing this, there will be plenty of laughs along the way,” the comedian said. “I am so happy to be able to do this with my brother Cedric The Entertainer, Owen Smith and the rest of the amazing crew we have put together. Get ready for your new favorite show!”

“Our subscribers love CBS’ The Neighborhood, so it’s a natural fit to bring CRUTCH to Paramount+,” Jeff Grossman, EVP of Programming, Paramount Streaming, said. “We can’t wait to see what the immense talents behind CRUTCH – Tracy Morgan, Cedric The Entertainer and Owen Smith – bring to this new series.”
