A new Yellowstone spinoff is reported in development as Beth and Rip’s show gets a filming update, with the series’ universe continuing to expand. The upcoming Beth and Rip Yellowstone spinoff will see Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser reprise their roles from the original series, their stories continuing after the end of the flagship western. Since the original ranch was sold back to the Broken Rock Reservation at the end of the show, the couple’s new series will see them building a new life together beyond the bounds of the Dutton family’s heritage.
Now, a report from Puck claims that a new Yellowstone spinoff is currently in development from creator Taylor Sheridan, although no story details have been revealed as of writing. The Beth and Rip-focused series is set to start filming sometime this summer as well, with the show also looking to cast an actor with a similar role to Kevin Costner’s John Dutton. The report also emphasizes the number of ideas for new seasons of ongoing shows alongside ideas for new shows Sheridan has, both in and beyond the western’s shared universe.
What Yellowstone’s Spinoff Updates Mean For The Franchise
The Main Series Was Just The Beginning
At the end of Yellowstone, Beth, Rip, and Carter go to Dillon, Montana to start a new ranch, leaving their old life behind to explore the new challenges ahead. The show filming this summer means it won’t be long until more concrete news about what to expect from the series arriving. It will join the likes of 1883 and 1923, as well as upcoming spinoffs The Madison, 1944, and 6666. These expansive plans for the series are seemingly just the start, however, with another untitled series also now in the works.
Since nothing is known about the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff, the new series could take place in the past, present, or future. It could be an additional series documenting the history of the Dutton family, similar to the ongoing 1923. Another option is a show focusing on Kayce after the events of the original show, as it’s unconfirmed if he’ll be showing up in the franchise again. It could also be like The Madison’s story, following a new group of characters who aren’t directly connected to any other storyline in the franchise.
