Vought Rising , a prequel show to The Boys, adds Blue Bloods and Euphoria actors to its cast. Following the success of The Boys on Prime Video, creator Eric Kripke’s superhero satire franchise is now set to expand with a spinoff that takes place in the 1950s, which was announced last summer. Hailing from showrunner Paul Grellong, Vought Rising’s story has been described as a murder mystery about Vought’s origins, with both Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy and Aya Cash’s Stormfront, aka Clara Vought, confirmed to star.
Variety now reports that Will Hochman has been cast in Vought Rising in an undisclosed role. Hochman starred in five seasons of Blue Bloods as Joe Hill and also recently appeared in The Greatest Beer Run Ever (2023). In addition to Hochman, Deadline reports that Euphoria actor Elizabeth Posey, who played Becky in one episode of the HBO show, has also joined the spinoff, though it’s not clear who she will be playing. The Variety report also notes that production on the prequel is expected to get underway later this year.
So far, the only actors from the cast of The Boys who are confirmed to appear are Cash and Ackles. Since the show takes place in the 1950s, it’s probably limited to Supes when it comes to which familiar characters can appear. Many Supes, after all, are shown to age especially slowly. A previous report from Variety revealed that Mason Dye has been cast in The Boys season 5 as Bombsight, a new Supe, and that he could also appear in Vought Rising.
As far as Hochman and Posey’s casting, it’s not yet clear whether they will be playing Supes. While there is sure to be bloody superhero action, just as in The Boys, the series’ exploration of Vought’s origins suggests there will be plenty of other roles available for actors, including Vought employees and executives. It’s unclear how prominently Hochman and Posey will feature in the show, but, with both Blue Bloods and Euphoria having found great success, Vought Rising could certainly increase both actors’ star power in a major way.
Our Take On Vought Rising’s New Castings
“The Boys’ Prequel Show Needs A Great Cast To Succeed”
“Stormfront flies down out of the sky and in front of a skyscraper in Manhattan in The Boys.”
“With The Boys season 5 confirmed to be the show’s last, it’s currently getting a great deal of attention. Season 5 is almost certainly set to release before Vought Rising, meaning excitement and anticipation regarding the prequel may not truly kick in until after the flagship series has ended. Vought Rising, however, is already shaping up to be an exciting continuation of the franchise, and one that injects some new elements into the world of The Boys while retaining important aspects of that show’s tone.”
The Boys season 5 started filming last November and is expected to release at some point in 2026.
One of the key reasons why The Boys has succeeded, in addition to its graphic violence and clever subversion of classic superhero tropes, is its cast. There are figures worth rooting for and others that are easy to love to hate, and Vought Rising will need this as well if it hopes to succeed. With filming reportedly getting underway later this year, more updates on Vought Rising hopefully aren’t far off.
