Mitchell’s Fly Team Romance May Have Come Out Of Nowhere, But I Believe Its His Best Ending

FBI: International season 4, episode 16, titled “Little Angel,” sets up an exciting new romance for Mitchell (Jesse Lee Soffer) as the series draws to a close — but this pairing seems to have developed out of thin air. FBI: International is arguably the best of the FBI shows because of its unique premise. It follow the elite Fly Team allowing the procedural to tell stories about crimes against American interests that take place in foreign countries, most often in Europe.

Sadly, the foreign-based procedural is one of several shows that CBS canceled in 2025 despite its strong ratings. The procedural has only a few episodes to wrap up all major storylines. I’m especially interested in what happens to newcomer Wes Mitchell, who only began leading the Fly Team in season 4 and who has had a difficult time adjusting to protocols for dealing with European police officers. “Little Angel” offers a partial answer, as analyst Amanda Tate offers Mitchell support after he learns his ex-girlfriend, Ella, is lying and covering up conflicts of interest while working on a case together.

Mitchell Is Suddenly Partnered Up With Tate In FBI: International Season 4, Episode 16 (After Spending Time With Vo)

Ella’s return in “Little Angel” is intended to end that relationship, leaving Mitchell free to start something new. He and Ella broke up in the beginning of FBI: International season 4 when Mitchell decided to stay in Budapest rather than return to the States after the capture of the man who had killed his work partner in Los Angeles. It wouldn’t have made sense for Ella to re-emerge now unless FBI: International wanted to resolve her and Mitchell’s relationship, so I wasn’t surprised that Tate quickly learned that Ella had a financial stake in the case.

Tate mostly works with computers, so it was equally unsurprising that she was the one to get the hidden records that prove Ella’s deception or that she passed the intel to Mitchell. The Fly Team is supposedly working with Ella to protect a cryptocurrency CEO and his family, so Mitchell needs to know that his ex is engaged in questionable behaviorHowever, this episode marks the first time that Mitchell works closely with Tate instead of focusing exclusively on his relationship with Vo. Up until this point, it seemed like all signs pointed to Vo and Mitchell being endgame.
