Donnie Wahlberg is back — this time in Boston! CBS orders new Blue Bloods spinoff

After more than a decade of captivating audiences with the hit police drama Blue Bloods, CBS has officially ordered a new spinoff series, currently titled Boston Blue. This exciting new chapter will see Donnie Wahlberg reprising his iconic role as Detective Danny Reagan, bringing fresh life to the character in a brand-new setting.

Unlike the original series, which was firmly rooted in New York City, Boston Blue will follow Danny Reagan as he relocates to Boston — which also happens to be Donnie Wahlberg’s real-life hometown. In this new city, Danny teams up with Detective Lena Peters, a seasoned officer and the eldest daughter in a prominent Boston law enforcement family. Their dynamic partnership is expected to bring a fresh tone and compelling new stories to the franchise.

The spinoff is written by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis and produced by an impressive team that includes Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Wahlberg himself. The series is scheduled to debut during the 2025–2026 television season.

While Boston Blue is currently a working title, CBS has not yet announced an official series name. Regardless, the announcement has sparked excitement among longtime fans eager to follow Danny Reagan’s journey in a new environment, facing new challenges and uncovering new cases.

With a mix of legacy and novelty, Boston Blue aims to expand the Blue Bloods universe while staying true to the emotional depth, family values, and gritty realism that made the original series a hit. Donnie Wahlberg’s return as Danny Reagan promises to deliver the same passion and intensity that fans have come to love — this time, with a Boston twist.
