As teased in a previously released sneak peek, the investigation into the deadly accident will commence almost immediately. The teaser featured intense scenes where Boden subjects the officers to questioning, seeking answers to who might have been responsible for the professional blunder. Now Walker hints that someone will be made to face the consequences of their actions, telling Deadline: “Within the hour that a firefighter was left behind, and that moment happens, an investigation starts. So, Deputy Commissioner Bowden has to turn up at Firehouse 51 and let all officers and the chief know they are being investigated, and we have to prep just in case we lose this person. Possibly, a head will roll.”
‘Chicago Fire’ Season 13, Episode 18 Will Feel Like A Movie
Character returns to a series are always a special event, and the case is no different for Walker in “Post Moterm.” Showrunner, Andrea Newman, had previously teased that the episode will be unlike anything the show has seen, revealing that the story will be told through unique point of views and flashbacks. Walker also emphasized this unprecedented format, likening it to a movie rather than a classic TV episode while praising the writing team for a job well done. While sharing what his experience was like returning to the role, Walker added:
“Bowden lives inside of me. My problem is stopping Boden from popping out. [LAUGHS] It was amazing to go back. It was amazing to put the uniform on. I’d missed everybody terribly, and the welcome that I got was second to none. I feel very privileged as an actor to have a cast, a crew, and a production office step up and welcome you home. That’s what it was like, and then we went to work. And we went to work in the way that we always work. We knew that there was a very special episode. The writing in this episode is fantastic, and the filming of it is unusual for a Chicago Fire episode. I think you’ve got more of a movie here than an episode.”
The announcement of Boden’s return teased that the character will feature in at least one episode of Chicago Fire Season 13, hinting at the possibility that he could appear in more episodes. Asked by the interviewer if his appearance was a “one and done” thing, Walker expressed openness to always returning to the role whenever required, adding; “The truth of the matter is, if they write it, I will always come back and do it if I can be here. It’s a wonderful thing to be part of the Chicago Fire family. We support each other in so many ways that people can’t even possibly imagine, on and off the screen. So I’m very grateful.”
“Post Moterm” airs on NBC on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Catch up with past episodes on Peacock and stick with Collider for more interesting bits on your favorite properties.
