It’s hard not to take work home, but it’s great when that’s a good thing.

Justin Hartley has revealed how his family life has been affected while starring as Kevin Pearson in NBC’s hit show, This is Us.

In an interview with E! News published on Friday the 40-year-old actor said: ‘I’m like the cool dad now,’

‘She watches it, her friends watch it, their parents watch it,’ he said, noting that its made him more socially acceptable in her middle school world.

‘[When I] take her to school, I get to walk her in now. We can hang out in front of her friends. It’s cool.’

Beyond that, Hartley revealed being part of the emotional series has made him take a more thoughtful approach to his own parenting with his ex-wife, Lindsay Hartley, 38.

‘It has slowed me down a little bit,’ he said.

‘I think about the show sometimes and I’m like, “I’m going to have that conversation with my daughter.” The show will [often] inspire me to do something that I wouldn’t normally have done.’

Sometimes those talks happen very early in the morning, as the Revenge star referenced in a photo he shared of him and his daughter in December.

‘Early morning conversations on our drive to school with this one. It’s one of the things I live for,’ he wrote with the picture. ‘That’s a game face right there! Ready to learn! So proud of her.’

The Mistresses star also shared that when he brings his work home with him, it’s a ‘wonderful’ thing.

‘Usually, it’s like, you have a rough day at work [so] you see movies and TV shows about this… You have a rough day at work, [so] you come home and you take it out on your wife and kids. You see that—it happens in real life,’ he started, before acknowledging the difference for him.

‘I get the benefit of it [being] the opposite,’ he said, pointing out how happy he is to be working on the show.
