April 2025 TV Show Shocker: Cancellations That Hurt – and Renewals No One Saw Coming!

Things are looking bright for some of our favorite TV doctors, investigators, and first responders. ABC kicked off April by renewing the dramas Grey’s Anatomy9-1-1The Rookie, and Will Trent. (One doctor is still floating in limbo, though — ABC, this is your cue to throw Doctor Odyssey a life preserver!) Meanwhile, HBO has ordered a third season of The Last of Us, Paramount+ with Showtime has renewed the Dexter prequel Dexter: Original Sin, and AMC Networks is conjuring up a new chapter of Mayfair Witches. Fox renewed MasterChef and is going all in on its animated sitcoms, with four of the network’s comedies — The SimpsonsFamily GuyBob’s Burgers, and the returning American Dad! — scoring four more seasons each (!). Netflix is also promising more animation by renewing its video game adaptation Devil May Cry, and more temptation by renewing the reality series Temptation Island.

The fictional video game creators of Mythic Quest aren’t so lucky; the comedy has been canceled after four seasons at Apple TV+. To soften the blow, an updated finale with a new ending will be available to stream. A pair of comedies have also been canceled at Peacock: Based on a True Story has ended after two seasons, and Mr. Throwback has ended after one. And Prime Video is scrapping its plans for a big Citadel universe, canceling the actions series’ two international spin-offs, Citadel: Diana and Citadel: Honey Bunny.
