FBI’ Spinoff ‘CIA’ Gets Big News From CBS

FBI’s new spinoff just a serious dose of good news,

CIA, the latest spinoff in the FBI franchise, will now join CBS’ 2025–26 schedule following a straight-to-series order from the network. Tom Ellis, who is known for his role on the television series Lucifer, will star in the series, according to Deadline. The series order follows after the cancellation of the other FBI spinoff shows: FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International.

Ellis is also set to appear in Hulu’s limited series Washington Black and the Netflix film The Thursday Murder Club this year.

Written by Law & Order creator Dick Wolf, CIA will revolve around a fast-talking, rule-defying CIA case officer, and a disciplined, experienced FBI agent who strictly follows the law. When the two are paired up at the CIA’s New York Station, they must overcome their differences and work together to investigate criminals and threats within the United States.

This marks the third new drama series order by CBS for the 2025–2026 season, following the Fire Country spinoff Sheriff Country and the Blue Bloods spinoff Boston Blue.

CIA is executive produced by Dick Wolf and Craig Turk, with Hudgins serving as showrunner. Also joining the executive team are Nicole Perlman, former CIA officer David Chasteen, and Peter Jankowski of Wolf Entertainment. As with the rest of the FBI franchise, the series is produced by Universal Television (a part of Universal Studio Group) in partnership with Wolf Entertainment and CBS Studios.
