As far as final episodes go, tonight’s installment of FBI: International didn’t really feel like one. It was reported as Luke Kleintank‘s last episode as the actor is leaving the CBS drama to spend more time with his family, but there was little hint of that exit in “Touts.” The episode was focused much more on the case at hand, which sent the team to London to chase after an old family friend of Smitty’s (Eva-Jane Willis) who was involved in the IRA. That family friend turned out to be Smitty’s real father, making the whole thing hit a lot closer to home for her than most cases do.
Forrester (Kleintank) simply did the same kind of job he usually does as the Fly Team’s leader, and got Smitty’s newfound dad cleared of any wrongdoing. There was no sign that he was about to leave the team and no indication that there was anything out of the ordinary. That, unfortunately, probably means Forrester isn’t leaving by choice, and his exit is going to take over the final two episodes of the season, as Willis teased in an interview with Parade.
“There will be a cliffhanger at the end of 12, which takes us into 13, and I’m assuming you already know that the resolution will mean that Forrester is no longer with [the team] by the end of 13,” she said. “I can’t say more about how exactly that comes about or how that develops through those episodes, but it’s worth tuning in for.”
The promo for next week’s episode shows that Forrester seems to have gone missing, or “gone dark.” Raines (Carter Redwood) is shown literally leaping over buildings to find his friend/boss, and it appears someone is being tortured. At the end, a voiceover from Forrester says, “And the truth will come out.” Clearly, this is a heck of a lot more than just a transfer or promotion.
