While many Chicago Fire fans would love to see their favorite on-screen couples together in real life, many of the cast members have found love outside of Firehouse 51.
Since its debut in 2012, the NBC procedural drama has run for 13 seasons, featuring a cast of dedicated firefighters, paramedics, and rescue workers working to save the city’s residents from terrifying life-or-death situations. While most of the fires they put out happen outside the police station, things have certainly heated up between their colleagues inside the station.
Police station romances may not be encouraged, but they’re definitely a big deal at Firehouse 51. From Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund) — and later Casey and Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) — to Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), Chicago Fire has no shortage of love stories. Luckily, the cast’s real-life relationships have been a lot less dramatic.
Spencer, who starred on the show until 2021, has been married to Dr. Kali Woodruff Carr since 2020, and Raymund has been in a relationship with cinematographer Tari Segal since around 2016. Kinney married model Ashley Cruger in 2024.
Here’s everything you need to know about Chicago Fire’s cast’s past and present real-life romances.
Jesse Spencer, who plays Matthew Casey, married Dr. Kali Woodruff Carr, a research scientist at Boston Children’s Hospital, in 2020. The couple met at a music festival in Chicago in 2014 and got engaged while hiking in the Peruvian Andes in 2019.
The Australian actor said their wedding was a “bright spot” in a year devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic. “She’s beautiful, intelligent and beyond her years,” he told The Daily Telegraph. “We’re so happy. She’s been my anchor in every storm, and we’re so excited to move on to the next phase of our lives.”
Two years after their wedding, Spencer and Dr. Carr welcomed their first child. While the couple has kept the details private, the actor cited a desire to spend more time with his growing family as the reason he left Chicago Fire in 2021. Taylor Kinney, who plays Kelly Severide, has been married to model Ashley Cruger since 2024.
After going public with their relationship on Instagram in 2022, the couple has kept their romance private from the public. Cruger has also been supportive of her husband’s on-screen career and even appeared in an episode of Chicago Fire in season 11.
“The first episode of Chicago Fire aired last night and I got to watch it @taylorkiney111,” she wrote in a since-deleted X post, according to Hello!. After two years of dating, Kinney and Cruger tied the knot on April 30, 2024, in an intimate ceremony in Chicago.
Monica Raymund has been dating cinematographer Tari Segal since around 2016. Although the couple has been relatively private, they have shared a few moments of their relationship on Instagram. In 2020, the Hightown actress posted a black-and-white selfie with Segal on a four-wheeling trip in Utah with the caption “Fridaay funday.”
Segal shared a photo of Raymund walking on the beach with their dog Charlie in 2022 and captioned a close-up of the actress, “Happy Valentine’s Day to this baby,” in 2020. David Eigenberg, who plays Christopher Herrmann on Chicago Fire, has been married to his wife, Chrysti Eigenberg, since 2002. The Sex and the City actor told CosmoTV in 2013 that they met at a formal event in Virginia and got married “really fast.”
“I knew she was the one,” David told the outlet, noting that they went through a rough patch in their second year of marriage. “When things settle down and you can still forgive each other, communicate and start to understand something about each other … that’s a good thing.”
The couple have two children together, a son and a daughter, who helped their mother surprise David with a sentimental gift for his 60th birthday in 2024. During a 2012 appearance on The Rosie Show, Mulroney spoke about the timing of his second marriage after his divorce from Keener in 2007. “A lot of things don’t make sense,” he said, “but you can’t deny your heart.”
