Just a few episodes before the end of Will Trent season 3, Angie hit rock bottom (again), and all the plot proves is that she and Will shouldn’t be together. The ABC drama has often focused on Will and Angie’s on-again, off-again relationship, which began when they were teenagers in an orphanage. As of Will Trent season 3, episode 16, the two characters are co-workers and somewhat friends, but there’s always been a promise of something more between them. However, after this latest development in Angie’s life, her relationship with Will must remain platonic, for both of their sakes.
Angie’s mother passed away in Will Trent season 3, episode 15, prompting her to break her sobriety by going to a bar and ordering a drink. She continues to drink in episode 16 and somehow manages to hide her relapse from other characters (it’s safe to say that Angie never interacts with Will and Ormewood is busy worrying about his brain tumor). However, Angie can only hide for so long. It’s only a matter of time before Will learns the truth and tries to help her get her life back on track. Unfortunately, this may end up being painful for both of them.
Will Trent Season 3, Episode 16 Puts Will & Angie on Very Different Paths
As mentioned above, Angie continues to drink in Will Trent Season 3, Episode 16 (and starts carrying around a box containing her mother’s ashes). Although Angie flushes her drink (and her mother’s ashes) down the toilet at the end of “Push, Jump, Fall,” she is later beaten up by a couple when she tries to intervene in their heated fight. So the end of the episode certainly doesn’t leave much room for the audience to believe that Angie’s life is changing.
Meanwhile, Will, who is also struggling after accidentally shooting a teenager, makes impressive progress in his recovery in Will Trent season 3, episode 16. Will and Faith investigate the death of a cowboy and a woman who ran off with one of the stable’s horses, Pancake. After finding the horse, Will is initially afraid of the large animal. However, the woman who ran off with the horse teaches Will more about the animal, and the main character Will Trent becomes close to Pancake.
Sadly, Pancake is in poor health because she has become accustomed to dealing drugs. But Will is determined to save the horse and tells her, “Listen, Pancake, you and I, we’re going to make a deal, okay? If you live, I’m going to live… We’re going to get through this because we chose to live, okay? We chose to live.” So Pancake’s survival and Will’s connection to the horse have led to significant improvements in his mental health. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Angie.
Will Can Help Angie, But Don’t Sacrifice Her
Will may be the only one who can help Angie, but given his development in season 3, episode 16, he can’t give up his own progress to do so. The harsh truth about Will and Angie’s relationship in Will Trent is that they are toxic to each other. Yes, they understand each other better than anyone else. However, Will and Angie’s relationship is built on trauma, and for most of their lives, Will has tried to save Angie, and she has pushed him away to sulk in her pain.
Angie must find a way to recover from her latest trauma. While Will can certainly be there for her during this difficult time in her life, it may be best for Angie to seek outside help. The worst case scenario would be that Angie’s downward spiral negatively affects Will, dragging them back to their old toxic ways. So Will Trent season 3 must be careful not to repeat Will and Angie’s past mistakes as the finale approaches.
Will Trent should finally get over Will & Angie’s toxic romance
Will and Angie cannot get back together in Will Trent season 3, especially after she relapses and he recovers. Angie isn’t ready for a healthy romantic relationship, and neither is Will, despite his progress in episode 16. They both need therapy, and then maybe one day they can reunite. However, given their pasts and Angie’s break from sobriety, it’s best that Will and Angie remain friends forever. Another romantic attempt on their part could easily send them back to their toxic tendencies. For everyone’s sake, Will and Angie should stay apart forever in Will Trent.
