Pentland told the outlet that Barr, 72, and her family were “still glad” The Conners cast “got seven solid seasons of work out of the show she built.”
Additionally, he said they “didn’t watch a single second” of the reboot after Barr was forced out. She and the family also “didn’t even know it just wrapped.”
Barr played the titular character in the original series, Roseanne, from 1988 to 1997. In 2018, she joined the show’s reboot The Conners but was ultimately written off following controversial tweets.
In May 2018, Barr posted and then deleted a tweet saying Valerie Jarrett, a former Michelle Obama aide, was the offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.”
She later issued a public apology.
However, ABC condemned the message as “abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values” and announced Barr’s exit from The Conners.
