Through 6 seasons with dozens of dangerous missions, SEAL Team is not only a simple military action film but also a profound picture of comradeship, loyalty and the struggle between national duty and personal life. The characters in the film are all built with psychological depth, no one is completely strong, no one is weak forever. They are real people, struggling between life-and-death decisions and long-lasting heavy mental consequences. Below are portraits of the characters who have created and are creating the soul of SEAL Team.
1. Jason Hayes (David Boreanaz)
Role: Bravo Team Leader
Character psychology:
Jason is the soul of SEAL Team – a natural leader, always commanding every mission with determination and courage. But the years of service are never far from his mind. He suffers from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), constantly haunted by past decisions – especially the deaths of his wife and several of his teammates.
Season 6 further illustrated Jason’s pain in hiding his traumatic brain injury (TBI), which could have a serious impact on his ability to fight and the safety of his entire team. Season 7 is expected to bring Jason into a crisis – forcing him to confront himself: Can he still lead, or is it time to pass his position on to the next generation?
2. Ray Perry (Neil Brown Jr.)
Role: Jason’s sniper, best friend and spiritual advisor
Character psychology:
Ray embodies the balance between military and moral. A devoted husband and respected father, Ray is often torn between his professional ideals and family values. He suffered a nervous breakdown after a particularly brutal mission and hid his injuries from Jason – leading to extreme tension between the two.
In season 7, Ray will continue to be a pillar of the team, but may also face new challenges when he has to choose between the safety of his family and the duty of not abandoning his teammates.
3. Sonny Quinn (AJ Buckley)
Role: Weapons expert, fast shooter and… troublemaker
Character psychology:
Sonny is the “bloodthirsty” of Bravo Team – always ready to rush into danger, but also someone who often acts on emotions. Behind the humorous, carefree exterior is a lonely and deeply hurt person. The emotional relationship between Sonny and Davis once caused a stir among audiences, especially when they could not find a common voice between love and duty.
In season 6, the event of Sonny becoming a father brought new depth to this character. In season 7, he may face a painful choice: continue to pursue a career in the field or step back to become a full-time father.
4. Lisa Davis (Toni Trucks)
Role: Logistics officer, later combat command officer
Character psychology:
Lisa is the embodiment of women in the military – strong, decisive and constantly asserting her position in a masculine environment. She is not only a strong support for Bravo, but also directly involved in strategy and support for the commander.
Her emotional relationship with Sonny is tumultuous, but it also helps Lisa clearly demonstrate her independence and career priorities. Season 7 could see Lisa take on more important roles in tactical command – where she is forced to choose between reason and emotion, between team and organization.
5. Clay Spenser (Max Thieriot)
Role: Young soldier, future of the SEAL Team
Character psychology:
Clay was once considered the “ideal successor” to Jason – a young, idealistic warrior with great leadership potential. However, major events, especially the accident that caused him to lose his leg and the identity crisis, caused Clay to reshape his entire life.
In season 6, Clay decided to leave the team to work supporting veterans, a direction that symbolized his great maturity. Although the character is believed to have sacrificed, there is still a chance that Clay will reappear through flashbacks or some other form, especially since actor Max Thieriot still has connections to the SEAL Team universe.
