Finale Fallout: Will Trent Prepares to Say Goodbye to a Fan Favorite

There’s only one episode left in Will Trent Season 3, and it’s likely to be the show’s first major death. In the upcoming finale, the main characters of Will Trent face the first threat introduced in episode 17, “Why Hello, Sheriff,” and it’s likely to be fatal. Over the course of three seasons of the ABC police procedural series, no main characters (i.e., those in the main cast, like Angie, Ormewood, etc.) have died. That’s not a bad thing, of course, but it does mean that Will Trent is about to suffer a tragic loss that will change the show forever.

In Will Trent Season 3, Episode 17, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Atlanta Police Department team up to track down a bioterrorist group. It all starts with a murder, which leads them down a rabbit hole that could easily lead to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. The penultimate hour ends with Will and his gang discovering that the criminals in question have unleashed a seemingly deadly virus. Now, it’s up to the Will Trent season 3 characters to stop the spread of the virus and catch those responsible. Unfortunately, not all of them make it out alive.

Michael Ormewood
Perhaps the Will Trent fans should be most worried about is Michael Ormewood. In “Why Hello, Sheriff,” Jake McLaughlin’s character brings Roy, an elderly homeless veteran (who is very sick), to the hospital. Since the hour begins with someone handing the veteran a sandwich that definitely contains the deadly virus, it’s possible that he’s patient zero. Ormewood has come into direct contact with the patient’s first carrier, reducing his chances of survival in the finale. Additionally, at the end of season 3, episode 17, Ormewood was one of the people locked inside the hospital when it went into blackout mode.

In addition to the bioterrorist attack, Ormewood also had a brain tumor. He learned about it in Will Trent season 3, episode 14, and has been trying to take every step necessary to remove it ever since. However, by the time the finale aired, Ormewood still had the tumor in his head. In short, Ormewood was exposed to an infected person, trapped inside a hospital that was being quarantined to contain the virus, and developed a brain tumor. The situation is not looking good for Ormewood.

Amanda Wagner
Although Sonja Sohn’s Amanda Wagner was not in the hospital at the end of Will Trent season 3, episode 17, the finale trailer teased that her life would be in danger in the upcoming episode. However, this certainly isn’t the first time she’s faced death threats. While the hospital was trying to contain the virus in the finale, the GBI and APD were trying to track down the terrorists responsible for the bio-attack. Unfortunately, the criminals seemed to have found the agents before they could figure out where they were.

The bio-terrorists attacked the GBI with guns blazing (literally) in the Will Trent season 3 finale trailer. They held everyone on the floor hostage, including Amanda. The good news is that Will wasn’t there when the terrorists arrived, and Amanda called him to inform him of the situation. She then instructed Will to find their lab and stop the attack. The video then shows the group’s leader grabbing Amanda and holding a gun to her head. In another scene, Will says, “I’m not going to just sit here and let them kill Amanda.” So fans should definitely be worried about Amanda’s fate in the finale.

Nico
Ormewood wasn’t the only character locked inside the hospital in the final moments of Will Trent’s season 3 episode 17 — Nico was there, too. Nico was the one who found the sick veteran (aka patient zero). They helped Ormewood bring Roy to the hospital, and it’s clear they formed a bond with the man because they wanted to stay with him. Sadly, Roy’s chances of survival are slim. Nico’s chances aren’t great either, since Roy may have passed the virus on to them.

Technically, Nico wasn’t a main cast member of Will Trent season 3. However, they’ve been around since the beginning and had a significant impact on the ABC police procedural series. So it makes sense that Nico would die in the season 3 finale.

TV writers often kill off a character to increase the drama’s appeal. If the people behind Will Trent want to show how serious a bioterrorist attack can be without killing any of the main characters (i.e. Will, Angie, Faith, Amanda, or Ormewood), they might consider a recurring character like Nico as an option. Hopefully that won’t happen, but viewers should prepare for the worst when the Will Trent season 3 finale rolls around.
