Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage stars discuss who they want to see return for Season 2.
Speaking to TV Insider, stars Rachel Bay Jones and Will Sasso, who portray Mandy’s mother and father Audrey and Jim in the hit Young Sheldon spinoff series, opened up about the guest stars they would like to see return in Season 2. Sasso mentioned both Wallace Shawn, who played Professor John Sturgis in Young Sheldon, as well as Reba McEntire, who appeared as June across multiple seasons. “Bring back Reba!” Sasso exclaimed.
“I’m having a really good time with Zoe Perry, who plays Mary. That’s been really enriching,” said Rachel Bay Jones. The star went on to note that the series’ team of writers “are really enjoying writing our feud together. We had a really good time working with Annie Potts \[Meemaw] who is one of my best friends. Also, I think the more we can get Lance Barber in there as \[the spirit of] Georgie’s dad, in some kind of fashion, the better.”
The Story Continues With Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2
Sasso and Bay Jones first appeared as the parents of Emily Osment’s Mandy McAllister in Young Sheldon, a prequel series to The Big Bang Theory that ran for 7 seasons from 2017 to 2024. Only a few months after Young Sheldon came to a close, the story of the Cooper and McAllister families continued wtih Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, which brought back Montana Jordan and Osment in the titular roles. The series also features numerous guest and recurring stars, including Matt Hobby, Craig T. Nelson, and Raegan Revord, all of whom have reprised their Young Sheldon roles for the follow-up series.
Beyond bringing back fan-favorite characters, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has provided fans with some much-needed catharsis, particularly in regard to the death of Lance Barber’s George Cooper, whose character passed just prior to the Young Sheldon series finale. Back in November, co-creator Steve Holland broke down exactly why certain characters were absent from a scene set around George’s grave, noting that “It felt like the core family should be there.”
When asked about why Annie Potts’ Meemaw was nowhere to be seen, Holland explained, “Meemaw is certainly a part of that, but it really felt like just having the core family there was the most important visual. And then it also helped pay off the joke when you go back to the McAllister house. It seemed funny that this random assortment of people were just left there — like, Dale and MeeMaw were just sort of, you know, stuck having Thanksgiving dinner without their family.”
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is streaming on Paramount+.
