New Spin-off: FBI: CIA in development, set to premiere in Fall 2025
The FBI franchise continues to thrive with major updates for its future. CBS has officially renewed the original FBI series for additional seasons, extending the show through Season 9, which is expected to air in 2027. This renewal demonstrates the continued success of the series, which remains one of the network’s most popular dramas.
However, as part of a broader restructuring of its crime dramas, CBS has decided to cancel two of the spin-offs from the FBI franchise. FBI: Most Wanted, which ran for six seasons, and FBI: International, which completed four seasons, have both been officially wrapped up. The decision to cancel these shows was largely influenced by scheduling challenges and financial considerations, as CBS reallocated resources toward other projects within its lineup.
In place of the canceled spin-offs, CBS is moving forward with a new spin-off titled FBI: CIA. The series, which stars Tom Ellis, is expected to air on Monday nights starting in Fall 2025. FBI: CIA will become part of the network’s “All-FBI Monday” programming block, complementing the original FBI series. This new show will explore the world of the CIA, offering a fresh perspective on the agency’s operations and its role in global security.
Despite the changes to its spin-off series, the FBI franchise remains a cornerstone of CBS’s programming. With the ongoing success of the original series and the upcoming debut of FBI: CIA, CBS is positioning the franchise for continued success in the coming years, providing fans with compelling crime dramas set within the world of federal law enforcement.
For fans of the FBI universe, the future remains bright with fresh storytelling and exciting new developments to look forward to.
