Love on the Run: Tracker Boss Teases Colter & Reenie’s Romantic Crossroads in Season 3

Family secrets and missing people are the bread and butter of the Justin Hartley-led CBS procedural, Tracker. The beloved procedural does, however, take some time out for matters of the heart, as seen in Season 1 and in the first episodes of its sophomore season, as Hartley’s Shaw reignites his relationship with Gina Picket’s sister, Camille (Floriana Lima). Colter has also, throughout the show’s two seasons, had a very clear, emotional connection with Fiona Rene’s Reenie. While the pair are yet to explore a romance between themselves, they’ve been involved with others. Looking ahead to Season 3, showrunner Elwood Reid has discussed the potential direction romance takes for these two beloved characters.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Reid was quizzed regarding Colter and his lack of a partner, and if it benefits the show at this point. “I think it’s hard because I don’t know if people judge or not, but when every episode starts, there’s a clock ticking,” Reid explains. Colter is a rewardist, and it’d be difficult to have him dating when he has a job to do. “We know that there’s someone missing. If he’s out at bars trying to pick up people or having hookups, you’re like, “What is this guy doing? He’s got to go rescue that person.” While Colter might be busy searching for missing people and Reenie continues her work as a lawyer, Reid reveals what direction their romantic lives could possibly be headed, saying:

“But I do think as the season goes on next season, there are more chances for Billie to come into it, and there are more chances to deepen whatever the Reenie relationship is.”

Billie or Reenie? Which Direction Will Colter Lean?

Reenie is currently in a relationship with fellow lawyer and current love interest, Elliot (Michael Rady), who, by the time the show returns for Season 3, will just be recovering from a gunshot wound sustained in a case involving Reenie’s client, Leo Sharf (Pej Vahdat). Reid’s comments suggest that Colter and Reenie might, perhaps, transition into something more romantic or maintain the status quo, but whichever direction they decide to travel will involve deep commitment. It is more likely, however, that Colter ends up with his rival, Bille Matalon (Sofia Pernas). After enlisting Billie’s help to investigate a prison break, Colter soon finds himself in a position that possibly changes the status of their relationship going forward. Given both lead similar lives, a Billie/Colter union won’t be an outlandish outcome in Season 3.

While a Billie/Colter romance wouldn’t be a bad idea, a Colter and Reenie union still holds its own appeal. While there doesn’t seem to be much in terms of headway there at the moment, Hartley’s co-star, Rene, revealed previously that her character hasn’t shut the door on the possibility entirely, saying:

“I might’ve shut the door, but there’s no lock. And I’ve also got a credit card that I can jam in there and open it real quick, and it’s an Amex platinum. You know what I’m saying?”

Seasons 1 and 2 of Tracker are now streaming on Paramount+.
