Move Over Virgin River — Ransom Canyon Just Shattered Netflix Records and Fans Want More

Ransom Canyon has been impressing Netflix viewers ever since it was released on the streaming giant last month and new figures show it has smashed viewing records
Netflix viewers flocked to watch a new western show dubbed the next Yellowstone and Virgin River, with data now revealing just how successful it’s been.

Ransom Canyon dropped on the streaming giant last month and fans were hooked, with many already demanding a second season. Streaming ratings have now been revealed for the week of April 14-20 and it’s clear Ransom Canyon had a huge debut.

The program managed to come second on the overall charts, narrowly missing the top spot which went to the new season of Black Mirror. Ransom Canyon is reported to have amassed a whopping 1.12 billion viewing hours for its first week alone.

According to date from The Nielsen, Ransom Canyon was the biggest debut that week. It had the second-best viewing hours, behind Black Mirror on 1.58 billion viewing hours.

The news comes as fans have already been flocking to X to demand a second season. While Netflix has not yet announced any renewal, some fans believe the streamer could announce something during the live Tudum event at the end of May.

“When are you going to renew Ransom Canyon? Please do it soon season one just wet my appetite!” one fan urged Netflix. Another commented, “Also, ransom canyon is prettyyy good guys.”

A third fan said, “The fact that ransom canyon hasn’t been renewed yet is so sad… this show really deserved a 2nd season,” while someone else begged, “Ransom Canyon is incredibly binge worthy but that cliff hanger ending was maddening. @netflix We NEED a season 2 for resolution and a lot more Yancy Gray 😉 #RansomCanyon.”

Ransom Canyon, which has 10 episodes, revolves around three ranching families vying for control over their land. Staten Kirkland (played by Josh Duhamel) is at the heart of the drama as he tries to overcome a devastating loss.

Staten sees hope in the form of long-time family friend Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly). However, as the fight to save Ransom continues, a mysterious cowboy arrives in town, unearthing secrets from the past.

Andrew Liner, who plays Reid Collins in the show, previously spoke with The Mirror US about what fans can expect to see if it gets renewed for a second season. “On the outside Reid has shown that he’s kind of cocky and confident, but through his actions he obviously is not. And I think that he’s constantly second guessing himself and constantly trying to do the right thing, but ending up maybe doing the wrong thing, or maybe doing something that wasn’t the right move,” he shared.

Andrew added, “What interests me about his complexities is that he could go either way. I would be completely on board with him really tapping into being good and really being like, ‘Nope, she’s all yours. I’m going to work on myself.'”

However, Andrew countered, “On the flip side, I think if he really leans into like, ‘OK, sure, try that,’ and then goes really petty and is just not a great guy, I think those two stories are interesting to tell.”
