Could a Crossover Be Coming? The Rookie: Feds Actor Weighs In on Returning

The Rookie: Feds actor has discussed the possibility of his character making a cameo in The Rookie, or even appearing in future spinoff shows. The success of The Rookie on ABC led to the release of spinoff show The Rookie: Feds, which aired in September 2022, focusing on FBI rookies, and was introduced via a backdoor pilot in The Rookie. Despite initially showing promise, The Rookie: Feds was canceled by ABC after one season, but one of the show’s actors has talked positively about returning to the franchise.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Deniz Akendiz, who played the role of Mark Atlas in five episodes of The Rookie: Feds, discussed the chances of a return to the franchise. Akendiz revealed that he was interested in making a return by way of a cameo, and discussed that the franchise might present opportunities for bringing the character back, especially with another spinoff show on the horizon. Check out Akdeniz’s comments below:

ScreenRant: The Rookie universe is still alive and well with another spinoff on the way. Would you ever be interested in making a cameo?

Deniz Akdeniz: Yeah. Everyone I worked with on The Rookie: Feds was so lovely, and it’s such a rich universe that if there’s a way they can bring him back—the FBI is existing out in that world. So we’ll see.

What This Means For The Future Of The Rookie
The Franchise Is As Strong As Ever & There Are Plenty Of Opportunities For Akdeniz To Return

With The Rookie season 8 getting a renewal, as well as a second spinoff show in development, there are going to be future opportunities for spinoff characters to make returns to the franchise. Akdeniz’s character Mark Atlas had a prominent role in The Rookie: Feds, and, being that the character was not killed off on the show, the chances of a return remain a very real possibility. From his comments, Akdeniz clearly enjoyed his time in The Rookie franchise and would be very open to making a return.

The Rookie: Feds might not have worked out, but the original franchise is still growing in strength and appeal, and, with another spinoff set in Washington State, there is plenty of scope for crossovers. Whether in the form of a cameo, or, eventually, more of a recurring role, bringing Akdeniz back to The Rookie in some capacity is certainly viable, particularly with fellow The Rookie: Feds co-stars Britt Robertson, Felix Solis, and Kevin Zegers also reprising their Feds roles in the flagship series.

Our Take On Akdeniz’s Potential Return To The Franchise
There Is Certainly A Good Chance If It Fits The Story

Whilst Akdeniz’s return is not confirmed, the actor has firmly revealed his interest in appearing again, and there is a good chance this could happen. However, it will depend on whether it fits the story to bring Mark Atlas back in some capacity. An outside chance would be that Akdeniz might return to the franchise playing a different character in The Rookie cast, but it feels more like a Mark cameo that might evolve into a guest arc will be the way forward, should Akdeniz make a return to the franchise.
