After thwarting an attack by Founders Front, Will joined Angie for her first sonogram — a bittersweet moment between exes that culminated in their acknowledgment that, yes, this was a little bit weird.
“I’ve thought about this moment,” Angie said, listening to her baby’s heartbeat. “Just us, sitting here.” But neither she nor Will ever anticipate that she will be welcoming a child into the world with another man. She thanks Will for being there, put her head on his shoulder, then baby daddy Seth (played by recurring guest star Scott Foley) arrived to “relieve” him.
When TVLine caught up with Christensen at the Disney Upfront in New York City Tuesday, she was still attempting to make sense of the scene, which she referred to as a “loaded” moment for the series’ central (albeit consciously uncoupled) duo.
“They both made that choice [to be there],” she said. “She allowed him to be there, she wanted him to be there, and he wanted to be there for her. They both felt like this was the right thing to do in the moment, and then it felt— It is so loaded. Honestly, I don’t know if it’s the ultimate kind of closure, the ultimate appreciation of what could have been, or if it’s leading us towards something else.”
But whatever the future holds, Christensen believes — or, at the very least, hopes — that Will will play a central role in Angie’s child’s life. She also thinks that Angie will “really step up and be her best self” for her future son or daughter in Season 4.
“That is an entirely new part of her that she has never explored [and] that we have never seen,” she pointed out. “I also think having her mom gone is really interesting because however much she was subconsciously living for her mom, or trying to please this person who wasn’t even in her life, [DeeDee is] now definitively gone, so she can take a fresh look at what’s important to her.”
