ABC’s quirky police drama Will Trent has enjoyed a successful three-season run thus far, and the show will return for a fourth season too. Created for the small screen by Liz Heldens and Daniel T. Thomsen (from the novels by Karin Slaughter), the series concerns a keen-eyed Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent (Ramón Rodríguez). Tackling some of the toughest cases in the city of Atlanta, Will’s journey for justice often brings him up against corruption within the law enforcement system. As if all that wasn’t enough, Will’s sometimes girlfriend (Erika Christensen’s Angela Polaski) works for the local police too.
Building momentum across its first three seasons, Will Trent has been one of the most consistent mid-season series in recent years, and that’s expected to continue. The shocking finale of Will Trent season 3 leaves things in a complicated spot for season 4, as two major characters’ lives are in the balance. Proving that the procedural series can grow, Will Trent added Yul Vazquez in a “major recurring role”, and each successive outing gets bigger and bigger. With even more twists on the horizon, ABC has renewed season 4 of Will Trent.
Will Trent Season 4 Latest News
With the popular procedural renewed for yet another installment, TVLine confirms that Will Trent season 4 will premiere sometime in early 2026 (via Yahoo! News). The season will run for 18 uninterrupted episodes (barring unavoidable interruptions like presidential addresses). Will Trent will continue to air on Tuesday nights at 8 pm ET, before The Rookie season 8, which will be on the air at 9 pm ET. This airing approach “worked like gangbusters” for both procedures, with ABC looking to continue that streak in 2026.
Will Trent Season 4 Is Confirmed
The future of Will Trent was never really in much doubt, and season 3’s developments proved that ABC was in for the long haul (at least for now). That’s why it wasn’t particularly shocking when the procedural was renewed for its fourth season in April 2025, and it seems as if Will Trent is finally becoming one of the network’s crown jewels, along with the likes of Grey’s Anatomy and the comedy Abbott Elementary. An early renewal is a good sign that season 4 won’t be the last either.
Not a lot is currently known about season 4, and it’s expected that more production details will begin to come out over the course of 2025’s summer months. However, we do know that Will Trent will return in midseason (January or February). While fall is usually where air networks are their biggest programs, a strong midseason entry can help bolster the network into the summer.
Will Trent Season 4 Cast Details
The cast of Will Trent features a large and rotating ensemble, but the core characters have remained consistent through all three seasons thus far. Leading the show as the titular agent, Ramón Rodríguez will be back as Will Trent, and he won’t be the only one. Although her fate is uncertain following her season 3 decision to keep her and Seth’s baby, it’s expected that Erika Christensen will reprise her role as Angela Polaski in one form or another.
Iantha Richardson plays Will’s working partner, Faith Mitchell, and they’ll likely remain together in season 4. However, the fates of Sonja Sohn as Will and Faith’s boss, Amanda Wagner, and Jake McLaughlin as Angie’s work partner, Michael Ormewood, are unclear after their brushes with death in the season 3 finale. Although the human cast is the focus of the series, animal actor Bluebell should also be back as Will’s chihuahua, Betty.
Newcomer Yul Vazquez was introduced in season 3 as Sheriff Caleb, and he is expected to continue playing the role into season 4 as well, especially after the big revelation about him. Caleb starts out as a somewhat villainous character with a secret, which was revealed to be that he is Will’s biological father. With Will open to explore a relationship with him, Vazquez’s role is expected to expand in season 4.
The cast of Will Trent season 4 should include:
Will Trent Season 4 Story Details
Excitement for Will Trent season 4 is higher than ever after the massive cliffhangers in the season 3 finale. Following Amanda’s emergency surgery after being shot by the Founders Front, her fate has yet to be determined, with the Will Trent showrunners making no guarantees she’ll live. Ormewood could also be in danger too, following his collapse due to his tumor.
It’s unknown how Angie will fit into season 4, with her and Seth head over heels in love and excited to become parents, but this could very well cause drama with Will. However, our protagonist’s most exciting storyline will be his relationship with his biological father, Caleb. He agreed to have dinner with Caleb’s family, and while things are looking positive for father and son, there’s plenty of room for conflict between them in Will Trent season 4, which is all but guaranteed to be just as riveting as the seasons that came before it.
