Donnie Wahlberg Dropped a Huge Casting Hint About ‘Blue Bloods’ Spinoff
Donnie Wahlberg spills the tea about the ‘Boston Blue’ castBlue Bloods fans were sad when the series came to an end in December 2024 after 14 seasons, but there’s still life in the franchise with the upcoming spinoff, Boston Blue, starring Donnie Wahlberg.
Wahlberg’s beloved character, Detective Danny Reagan, is headed to Beantown where he will be partnered with Detective Lena Peters, who is “the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family,” per the CBS press release. The 55-year-old actor is the only cast member who has been confirmed for the series, but he dropped a few hints to fans on his Instagram account on March 25.
Wahlberg posted the first teaser for the show, noting that it will be a fall 2025 premiere instead of a midseason replacement in 2026. “So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions, and to welcome all of you — to #BostonBlue,” he wrote enthusiastically in the caption. “The next chapter in the #BlueBloods legacy begins. I can’t wait. See you CBS fall!”
Viewers were chiming in with their excitement in the comments, but one particular fan caught Wahlberg’s eye. The follower wrote, “I wish it was the entire family that’s what made Blue Bloods work not just 1 character.”
Wahlberg dropped a clue that everybody was hoping for. “Tune in,” he responded with a winking emoji.
Another fan added, “Tell me Jamie is coming with you.” They were referring to the Reagan family’s youngest son, Jamie, played by Will Estes.
