In the Will Trent Season 3 finale, a Founders Front member shoots Amanda Wagner in the chest during a raid on the GBI offices. Angie Polaski kills the attacker, tries to stop Amanda’s bleeding, and calls for an ambulance. Doctors rush Amanda into surgery, but her condition remains critical.
After the surgery, Angie informs Will that Amanda survive the procedure. However, doctors state that the next 48 hours are vital, and her status is unresolved by the end of the episode. Will visits Amanda’s hospital room and tells her, “I want you to be okay. Because you helped me to be okay … You are my family. So you need to wake up. You hear me? You better wake up.”
Amanda is not the only character in jeopardy. Michael Ormewood, diagnosed with a brain tumor in episode 14, collapsed at home near the end of the finale. Faith finds him mid-seizure and calls for emergency assistance, leaving his fate uncertain as well.
Showrunners Liz Heldens and Daniel Thomsen confirmed they intentionally left Amanda’s condition as a cliffhanger. Heldens said Will express his feelings to Amanda for the first time created a major emotional moment. Thomsen emphasized Amanda’s importance to Will’s life, saying, “You can’t afford to lose Amanda.”
ABC has renewed Will Trent for Season 4, which will air in 2026. The showrunners said they haven’t decided whether the new season will begin with a time jump. Amanda’s fate remains uncertain, and her storyline will develop depending on how her condition unfolds off-screen.
