New Sound, Familiar Feel: Bridgerton Composer Links Season 4 to Queen Charlotte

Following the news that Bridgerton Season 4 will officially premiere next year, we’re learning a little more about the upcoming season. The season will be based on Julia Quinn’s third Bridgerton book, An Offer from a Gentleman, and will feature Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) in the male lead role. Now, composer Kris Bowers is sharing the music for the upcoming season as well as the connection to the prequel series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.

Bowers told Shondaland, “I’ve created a slightly different sound, which is very exciting in terms of new instruments and musical approaches to the Bridgerton world.” He said, “There’s a little connection to Queen Charlotte for me [personally] because of the fact that you’re seeing people who maybe aren’t usually seen in high society.” We also know that Taylor Swift’s voice will once again be making a return to the series (“Enchanted,” please, we beg).

What will season 4 of ‘Bridgerton’ be about?

Season 4 of Bridgerton follows Benedict as he meets Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) at a masquerade ball. This is the same ball referenced at the end of season 3 of Bridgerton, which followed the love story of Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).

If the season follows the book as Thompson has previously promised, there will be a time jump after Sophie and Benedict’s meet-cute, as he searches for the Lady in Silver (a nickname he gave her after never learning her name that fateful night). They don’t meet again until he rescues her from a party where she’s a maid. Eventually, Sophie becomes a maid in Bridgerton House and Sophie tries her best to deny the forbidden romance between her and Benedict.

So far, each season of Bridgerton has followed a common “pattern” in modern romance novels. The first season, following Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page) on the fake dating theme. The second season was the enemies-to-lovers theme between Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) and Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey). The third season was the friends-to-lovers theme between Colin and Penelope. Now, we have a Cinderella-style forbidden romance because of the class difference between Benedict and Sophie. Last year, Ha told RUSSH:

“She [Sophie] is always reminded of her place and dreams of nothing more than being a handmaiden. But at the end of the day, she’s human, and she craves love and human connection. And it’s not until she meets Benedict that she slowly lets her guard down, little by little, and starts to create space for love to flow into her.”

You can watch Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Tale now on Netflix. Stay tuned to Collider for the latest updates.
