Netflix has just shared major news about Bridgerton, confirming a season 4 release date that continues an important series trend. The streaming service announced that Bridgerton has been renewed for seasons 5 and 6 and that season 4 will premiere in 2026. The series debuted in 2020 and immediately found success with audiences, and that fanfare has not died down with each passing season. Bridgerton follows the same plot as Julia Quinn’s book series, with each book and season focusing on one of the Bridgerton siblings, meaning there could be up to eight seasons.
Season 3 changed the books’ orders slightly, but Netflix has now released images of season 4’s lead, Benedict Bridgerton. Bridgerton’s first three seasons, along with the Queen Charlotte spinoff, have been resolute successes, so it seems entirely likely that the future seasons will continue this trend. Understandably, Netflix has not yet given more information on which books seasons 5 and 6 will follow, but the news of season 4 dropping in 2026 proves that Bridgerton is continuing a release trend many Netflix shows struggle to beat.
Bridgerton Season 4’s 2026 Arrival Continues The Show’s Trend Of 2-Year Gaps Between Seasons
The Show’s Consistency Is Impressive
Bridgerton season 4’s 2026 release window is already very exciting, but it is also impressive that the show has managed to keep its release schedule fairly consistent. Bridgerton season 1 followed Daphne and Simon’s love story and was released in December 2020. Season 2, which centered on Anthony and Kate, aired in March 2022. This gap was even slightly shorter than two years, at just a 15-month turnaround.
Bridgerton season 3 then kept to a similar two-year gap, but Netflix changed approaches from the first two seasons slightly by dividing the third season into two parts. Season 3, part 1 aired in May 2024, and part 2 aired in June, forcing audiences to wait a few weeks to learn the season’s resolution. It is currently unknown whether Bridgerton season 4 will also be divided into two parts or air all at once. Interestingly, with the addition of Bridgerton’s Queen Charlotte spinoff, the gap between seasons is even smaller, as the six-episode miniseries premiered in May 2023.
Why Bridgerton Continues To Have A Consistent 2-Year Season Gap When Rival Netflix Shows Have Longer Delays
Streaming Show Release Gaps Are Getting Longer And Longer
A two-year gap can still feel like a long time for audience members raised on network TV, which consistently puts out a new season each year, but this level of consistency is still loads better than many of Netflix’s other shows. A two-year gap between seasons, which can even be shortened to 12 to 15 months when including the spinoff series, still means that more seasons of Bridgerton have come out in the past five years than many of Netflix’s other popular shows. Series like Stranger Things, Wednesday, and Squid Game all have three-year gaps between seasons now.
A lot of factors contribute to how long it takes to produce a season of television, but Bridgerton’s schedule does seem more consistent than some of Netflix’s other shows. In previous years, production was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and by strikes, and after these events, it seems that many productions have not gone back to their previous production speed. Moreover, Bridgerton’s production may be aided slightly by the fact that it is based on a book series and already has a clear plot, rather than having to develop each season’s story from nothing.
What Bridgerton Season 4’s Release Window Means For Seasons 5 & 6’s Renewal
Audiences Could End Up Spending Over A Decade With The Bridgerton Siblings
Beyond the confirmation that Bridgerton seasons 5 and 6 will happen, Netflix has not yet given any further information about those seasons regarding which siblings they will follow or when they will be released. However, if Bridgerton’s current release schedule remains consistent, it should not be too hard to guess. Following the two-year gap that the series has employed thus far, Bridgerton season 5 could be expected in 2028, and season 6 could be expected in 2030, meaning that audiences will have been invested in the show for 10 years at that point.
A 10-year run would be impressive for any show, but Bridgerton will need to make it worth audiences’ time. The series will need to maintain its quality and entertainment value to keep audiences coming back to revisit the siblings every two years. This is even more necessary considering that the series has potential beyond season 6. There are eight books and eight siblings in the Bridgerton family. This means that, should the series continue, Bridgerton seasons 7 and 8 may not appear until 2032 and 2034.
