SEAL Team season 7 now officially has a release date. First airing in 2017 on CBS, SEAL Team follows an elite team of special forces commanded by David Boreanaz’s Jason Hayes as they undertake various dangerous missions around the world.
After moving to Paramount Plus in the middle of season 5, season 6 returned to screens in 2022. SEAL Team season 7 has now been confirmed as the final season of the action series. The first two episodes of season 7 will be available on August 11, with the remaining eight episodes released weekly on Sundays. The series finale will conclude on October 6.
Could SEAL Team continue in a different form after Season 7?
In 2022, shortly after SEAL Team moved to Paramount, the company announced that a standalone film was in development. The film was designed to expand the show’s world while still telling a standalone story. TVLine later reported in November 2023 that the film had been canceled because Paramount decided SEAL Team season 7 would end the series.
This change of direction appears to be due to larger changes in the streaming landscape. Streaming services that had previously invested millions of dollars to bolster their content libraries have begun to back away from the initiative in recent years, instead focusing on turning a profit.
It’s clear that SEAL Team viewership was strong enough at one point to justify further expansion of the franchise, but it appears that’s no longer the case. If a standalone film is no longer in the works, it seems unlikely that a spinoff series will be greenlit.
Those who enjoyed Boreanaz’s lead performance are in luck, however, as the actor recently revealed that he’s been hard at work developing a new series as SEAL Team nears its end. S
tory details for Boreanaz’s new show have yet to be revealed, but if picked up, the actor could remain a staple on the small screen for years to come. While there are still plenty of questions about SEAL Team season 7, at least viewers now have an official release date for the show’s finale.
