US military drama SEAL Team is ending after a brief revival for a seventh season.
The series, which follows the elite Navy SEAL unit Bravo Team, recently confirmed its seventh season – but it looks like it’s the end for David Boreanaz’s Jason Hayes and his cast.
Deadline has confirmed the show’s end after its seventh season. The procedural drama, which also stars Max Thieriot (Bates Motel), AJ Buckley (Supernatural), Neil Brown Jr (The Walking Dead), Jessica Paré (Mad Men) and Judd Lormand (American Horror Story), has been plagued by cancellation rumors, including a campaign from fans to ensure it’s renewed beyond its sixth season.
With the season ending on a cliffhanger that included the departure of Thieriot’s original character Clay Spenser, SEAL Team was not immediately renewed for a seventh season.
According to Deadline, this was “in part due to discussions about finding a more efficient way to produce the series for streaming.”
The series moved from its original CBS channel to the Paramount+ streaming service for its sixth season, which consisted of just 10 episodes – the fewest of any season.
When SEAL Team was renewed after its sixth season, Tany Giles (president of programming at Paramount Streaming) said, “We look forward to bringing SEAL Team fans even more of the series’ deep storylines and thrilling missions with the upcoming seventh season.
“The series continues to grow and expand its audience. It’s a great example of the types of shows we see resonate with our subscribers.”
