For the past few years Westerns have been making a comeback in a big way, with the rising popularity of shows like American PrimevalYellowstone, and 1923. And now Netflix has added another series to our cowboy drama watchlist: Ransom Canyon.

The show is about the intersecting lives of three rival ranching families in Texas Hill Country, all battling for control over their land in the face of outside forces trying to destroy their way of life and legacies. There’s a lot going on, between the generations-long inter-family feuding, the horseback riding, and high school football. But at the very heart of the story is romance, the main one being a years-in-the-making, will-they-wont-they relationship between Staten (Josh Duhamel) and Quinn (Minka Kelly).

Though the first season was just released, some fans are already wondering whether a second one is already in the works. Here’s everything you need to know about Ransom Canyon season 2.

Is Ransom Canyon coming back for season 2?

The show is based on a series of novels written by Jodi Thomas, which has a total of eight books—without counting the prequels and Christmas special. So there is a lot of material, much of which season 1 has yet to cover. However, there has not been any official announcement just yet regarding the show’s renewal.

But even the actors are hoping to make more of the show. When asked by Tech Radar about whether fans can expect a follow-up to this debut season, Andrew Liner (who plays star quarterback Reid Collins) said, “We don’t know yet, but I sure hope so.” He also added, “Once you see the finale you’ll see that there’s more story to tell.”

What will Ransom Canyon season 2 be about?

The second season will pickup where the first leaves off. The first season is loosely based on the first book of the same title, so it’s not too far-fetched to assume that season 2 is going to be based on the second book, which is entitled Rustler’s Moon: A Small Town Cowboy Romance. If that’s the case, a couple of new characters plus another storyline might be introduced.

So going by the second novel’s description, here’s what we can expect:

On a dirt road marked by haunting secrets, three strangers caught at life’s crossroads must decide what to sacrifice…and what they’re each willing to risk for love.

If there’s any place that can convince Angela Harold to stop running, it’s Ransom Canyon. And if there’s any man who can reveal desires more deeply hidden than her every fear, it’s Wilkes Wagner. Beneath the rancher’s honorable exterior is something that just might keep her safe…or unwittingly put her in danger’s path.

With his dreams of leaving this small Texas town swallowed up by hard, dusty reality, all Wilkes has to show for his life is the Devil’s Fork Ranch. Though not one to let false hope seduce him, he can’t deny the quiet and cautious beauty who slips into his world and changes everything.

Lauren Brigman finally has freedom at her fingertips. All she needs is Lucas Reyes’s attention—a look, a touch, some sign that she’s more to him than a girl he rescued one dangerous night. But now it’s her turn to rescue someone, and the life-altering decision may cost her more than a chance with Lucas.
