After two strong seasons, Season 3 of Will Trent somehow raised the bar even higher. The season saw Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and Angie (Erika Christensen) finally move forward from their relationship after he arrested her in the Season 2 finale.
The season also saw Faith (Iantha Richardson) and Will get into a massive fight after he made Jeremy (Deion Smith) an informant in order to protect him from getting arrested. Additionally, Will finally finds out the identity of his biological father, Sheriff Caleb Broussard (Yul Vazquez).
The season was a strong one, with a number of excellent arcs for Will Trent’s main characters. As of the end of Season 3, Amanda (Sonja Sohn) and Ormewood’s (Jake McLaughlin) lives are hanging in the balance.
Angie and Seth (Scott Foley) are having a baby together, and Will has committed to getting to know Caleb and his family. Will Trent is on track to have a strong Season 4 when it returns in 2026, but there is one change I would like to see in Season 4: I need Will Trent to give Faith a better romantic storyline next season.
‘Will Trent’ Continues To Sideline Faith’s Love Life in Season 3
Faith Mitchell has had a number of brief love interests throughout Will Trent’s run. It looked like the show was building up to a temporary reconciliation between her and her ex (who is also Jeremy’s father), Charles (Rotimi), in Season 1. Instead, though, Charles has not been on the show since.
Faith had an intense one-episode romance with falsely accused killer Sam Laporte (Vince Swann) later that season. The two parted on good terms, but they have not seen each other since. Faith finally got a proper relationship in Season 2 with Luke (Ser’Darius Blaine), a journalist and her former fling. This relationship was clearly not built to last, and was built up to what could have been a very interesting breakup, in which they couldn’t compromise over the ways in which their careers clashed with each other.
Instead, though, it was announced after Will Trent’s six-month time jump that Luke had moved away for work during that time. He and Faith still seemed to be on good terms, but were not doing long-distance. The Season 3 episode, “Regarding the Death of Whitney McAdams,” introduced yet another new love interest for Faith.
While investigating the murder of a teenage dance student named Whitney (Briyana Guadalupe), Faith felt a spark from Whitney’s dance teacher, Elijah (Darius Jordan Lee). The episode ends with the two of them going on a date, but that seems to be it for the relationship as well. Faith and Elijah’s romance was too rushed, but Will Trent could have given them a relationship for a little while, and might still. As it stands, the series hasn’t given Faith’s love life as much care as the other main characters’, but it has a great opportunity to do that in Season 4 with Faith and Ormewood.
‘Will Trent’ Has Struck Slow-Burn Gold With the Potential Pairing of Faith and Ormewood
I never thought of Faith and Ormewood as romantic until Season 3, and it would have been easy for Will Trent to make this relationship happen in a way that felt forced. Instead, though, the series already has great slow-burn potential in this pairing. Season 3 begins with Faith and Ormewood working together in the absence of Will and Angie.
They were very in-sync, and Ormewood went out of his way to help Faith manage her diabetes, and to rub their new closeness in Will’s face. I was really enjoying this next step in Faith and Ormewood’s friendship, but things took a surprising and delightful turn a little further into the season. In a bold choice that really shouldn’t have worked, Will Trent had Faith and Ormewood become roommates. Faith had to move out of her place, and Ormewood suggested she move in with him to save money.
Oddly enough, this change became one of the highlights of Will Trent Season 3. Faith and Ormewood really work as close friends and roommates, and this dynamic gave Will Trent some of fun moments of lightness and comic relief in between the season’s more intense storylines. Faith and Ormewood both have a great relationship with each other’s children, and they already have routines as roommates.
What really made me see the romantic possibility of Faith and Ormewood was their dynamic after he told her about his brain tumor. Faith was initially really sympathetic, until Ormewood hilariously called her out for using his real name and making it sound like he was going to die. She then invited him to join her for a murder investigation at a resort on a private island, and it turned out to be exactly the distraction that he needed.
In procedurals, the best long-term love interests for main characters are either recurring characters in similar professions, or other main characters. Faith and Ormewood were initially an unlikely potential pairing, but I am actually really rooting for them to get together in a fut
