Speaking to People, Clarke explained that she hasn’t watched the popular House of the Dragon spinoff. The new series, which returns with Season 2 on June 16, stands as a prequel to the original HBO series, and follows the events that would lead up to the decline of House Targaryen. The prequel begins 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united after the Targaryen conquest, and almost two centuries before the events of Game of Thrones.
“I still can’t,” Clarke expressed about watching the Game of Thrones prequel series. “I just don’t know what it is. I feel so content and happy with what my experience was, that I think watching the new one would just feel so odd, I think,” she continued.

Clarke, who starred in 62 episodes and eight seasons of the original series, had nothing but good words about the prequel, despite deciding not to watch it. “I really do fully support the entire thing and everyone who’s made it, and it’s beautiful how successful it’s been,” she says. “It’s absolutely amazing.”
One House of the Dragon Star Hasn’t Watched Game of Thrones Yet
There are many actors out there who have admitted that they didn’t read novels before starring in an adaptation, or haven’t watched other media that doesn’t directly impact their own project. While Clarke has confessed that she can’t watch House of the Dragon yet, one of the stars of the prequel, shared the same sentiment about the original show. Ewan Mitchell, who plays Aemond Targaryen in House of the Dragon, explained that he didn’t want to find inspiration for his performance in the original series.
“I haven’t seen the original Game of Thrones,” Mitchell confessed to ComicBook.com. “I have a confession to make. I’ve never seen it, and I didn’t want to watch it going into this role. I didn’t want it to inform my decisions in any way, shape, or form, you know, whether it be consciously or subconsciously. I wanted to bring something fresh. Aemond is one of a kind, you know.”
House of the Dragon has a big future ahead, as HBO officially renewed the series for Season 3 ahead of the Season 2 premiere. House of the Dragon Season 2 premieres on HBO and Max on June 16.
