After Three Seasons, ‘Will Trent’ Still Owes Faith the Storyline She Deserves

After two successful seasons, Season 3 of Will Trent somehow raised the bar even higher. The season saw Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and Angie (Erika Christensen) finally move on from their relationship after he arrested her in the Season 2 finale. The season also saw Faith (Iantha Richardson) and Will get into a violent fight after he turned Jeremy (Deion Smith) into an informant to protect him from being arrested. Additionally, Will finally discovered the identity of his biological father, Sheriff Caleb Broussard (Yul Vazquez).

The season was a huge success, with some great developments for Will Trent’s main characters. By the end of Season 3, the lives of Amanda (Sonja Sohn) and Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin) were in danger. Angie and Seth (Scott Foley) are having a child together, and Will has committed to getting to know Caleb and his family. Will Trent is on track for a strong Season 4 when he returns in 2026, but there’s one change I’d like to see in Season 4: I need Will Trent to give Faith a more romantic storyline next season.

‘Will Trent’ Continues to Ignore Faith’s Love Life in Season 3
Faith Mitchell has had a number of brief romances throughout Will Trent’s tenure. It seemed like the show was building toward a temporary reconciliation between her and her ex (and Jeremy’s father), Charles (Rotimi), in Season 1. Instead, Charles hasn’t been on the show since. Faith had a one-episode intense romance with wrongly accused murderer Sam Laporte (Vince Swann) later that season. The two parted ways amicably, but they haven’t seen each other since.

Faith finally got a proper relationship in Season 2 with Luke (Ser’Darius Blaine), a journalist and former lover of hers. The relationship was clearly not built to last, and was building to what could have been a very interesting breakup, one in which they couldn’t come to terms with how their careers conflicted.

Instead, after Will Trent’s six-month time jump, it was announced that Luke had moved away for work during that time. He and Faith seemed to remain on good terms, but not in a long-distance relationship. The Season 3 episode, “Regarding the Death of Whitney McAdams,” introduced a new love interest for Faith. While investigating the murder of a teenage dance student named Whitney (Briyana Guadalupe), Faith felt a spark from Whitney’s dance teacher, Elijah (Darius Jordan Lee).

The episode ends with the two of them going on a date, but it seems like that’s the end of the relationship. Faith and Elijah’s romance was rushed, but Will Trent could have given them a brief relationship, and still could have. The show hasn’t delved into Faith’s love life as much as the other main characters, but there’s a great opportunity to do so in Season 4 with Faith and Ormewood.

‘Will Trent’ Has a Slow-Move to Potential Faith and Ormewood Couple
I never thought of Faith and Ormewood as a romantic couple until Season 3, and Will Trent could have easily made that relationship work in a way that felt forced. Instead, the show had great slow-mo potential with this couple. Season 3 begins with Faith and Ormewood working together in the absence of Will and Angie. They hit it off, and Ormewood went out of his way to help Faith manage her diabetes, and showed off their newfound closeness to Will.

I really enjoyed this next step in Faith and Ormewood’s friendship, but things took a slightly more unexpected and interesting turn later in the season. In a bold move that really shouldn’t have worked, Will Trent made Faith and Ormewood roommates. Faith had to move out of the house, and Ormewood suggested she move in with him to save money.

Oddly enough, this twist became one of the highlights of Will Trent Season 3. Faith and Ormewood were actually best friends and roommates, and this interaction gave Will Trent some fun, light-hearted, and humorous moments between the more intense storylines of the season. Faith and Ormewood both had great relationships with each other’s kids, and they got used to being roommates.

What really made me see the potential for romance between Faith and Ormewood was their interaction after he told her about his brain tumor. Faith was actually sympathetic at first, until Ormewood hilariously called her out for using his real name and acting like he was dying. She then invited him to join her in investigating a murder at a private island resort, and it turned out to be exactly the distraction he needed.

In procedurals, the best long-term love interests for main characters are recurring characters season of Will Trent. I loved watching them become so close over the course of Season 3, and how easily they have become a part of each other’s daily lives. When Ormewood was having a particularly hard time with his divorce, before they were even roommates, Faith took him out for dinner at his favorite burrito spot.

One night late at their time as roommates, they spent a night in with takeout and TV, and it was easy to see how well they would work as a couple. As of the Season 3 finale, I have no doubt that Ormewood will survive his seizure and will likely have his tumor removed soon. I could definitely see Ormewood reevaluating his priorities and realizing his feelings for Faith next season, and at this point, nothing would make me happier.
