One Of Us Is Lying: 10 Unpopular Opinions, According To Reddit

One Of Us Is Lying, the Peacock show based on the hit young adult thriller by Karen M. McManus, recently finished its first season. Fans of either the show, the book, or both have been divided about several aspects of the television adaptation, and have started discussion boards on Reddit to share their thoughts.

While the reception of One Of Us Is Lying was mostly good, some viewers have spoken up about their unpopular opinions in regards to plot, changes from the book, casting, and much more.

Bronwyn’s Casting Works

One Of Us Is Lying: 10 Unpopular Opinions, According To Reddit

While watching the show, some people held the unpopular opinion that the show made no casting mistakes. Redditor Mrsstiles commented, “I think the casting is excellent” and pointed out that the only one who didn’t look how they expected was Nate. But, the majority of fans disagree.

Bronwyn may have been the most intelligent One Of Us Is Lying character, but many viewers thought that she looked more like a teacher than a student. SIsForSad voiced their opinion in a Reddit thread, saying “the actress looks like a college professor.” Even Forbes weighed in, saying her casting fed into the typical teen drama trend of high schoolers looking like 30-year-old adults.

Maeve’s Love Triangle Was Interesting

It can be controversial to like a show’s departure from the source material, and that’s exactly how Redditor Pirogo3th feels. They showed their approval for the plot change, saying, “The Maeve and Janae ship is interesting.” An added bonus to this change was that it intertwined Maeve more into the core character group, which will set her up for her larger role in the sequel.

However, Maeve, Simon, and Janae never had a love triangle in the original story, and many viewers of the show think it should have stayed that way. Reddit user SIsForSad chimed in on this opinion, as well, saying “Why did they make Maeve in love with Simon and Janae in love with Maeve? She clearly did not like Simon nor were they friends in the books.” Unique_Couple_2753 agreed, saying, “her and Simon and Janae was so out of nowhere.”

Addy Wasn’t Likable’

Icy-Junket5727 shared their contrary opinion on the subject, saying, “I don’t like Addy’s character as much. They made her worse compared to the books.” One user, Aggravating_West_202, seconded that opinion, and wrote, “I agree she was more likable in the books. It’s probably because we can hear what they are thinking and feeling.” It’s a valid point, considering that books allow for inner monologues that move character development along much better than a TV show can

But Addy, the cheerleader-turned-murder-suspect, was a major player in the story. She drives much of the plot forward and comes up with several plans to try to find the real killer. She is a fan-favorite character, and fans additionally thought she had a great sense of humor, with Redditor Skipmuffin sharing, “Is it just me, or was the oxymoron joke by Addy actually funny??”
